Hi All,

03 D2 with air springs. Changed springs 6 mnths ago and no snags but just got back from shops and lights on dash came on (most of them) and have found rear nearside bag blown right up to max height yet drivers side normal height?

Pressing dash button to lower/raise does not work and I'm worried its gonna blow.... What can I do, what has caused it? Is it time to scrap this 80k pain and just spend the money from the sale of the D2 on my trusty 300tdi thats done over 200000k and still going strong.

Thanks in advance for simple fix.

Probably height sensors - have a look at them. Sometimes the linkage breaks, so the sensor arm moves randomly.

Be careful - as you say, it might well blow.

Yea check the sensors are still attatched properly, if you dare go near the car that is!!! If you are worried about it sat like that overnight unplug one of the sensors wiring and turn ignition on, the car will sink to the bump stops (mine does anyway). I recently got two britpart sensors and they jacked up the airspring on which ever side they were fitted to just as you describe, so if you do replace one or both, get genuine.

Thanks chaps.

It looking like sensors then. They are the originals so they are 7 years old ish.

Do I need to replace them in pairs? Are they the same? Is it essential to disconnect the battery?

My plan is to get an equal height (tyre top to arch measurement) at both wheels and then place jacks under etc to hold the chassis at that height keeping wheels equal. Turn off ignition, undo and swap sensors and then lower down and turn ignition back on and let car sort itself out. Will this work?

I live a fair jaunt from my nearest guy with an autologic calibration tool etc so want to do it without being totaly stuck.

Thanks

Just unplug battery and replace the one thats jacked right up, put battery back on and watch it lower down (if it is a sensor) There is nothing wrong with the side that is normal. Have you checked the side thats up in the air's sensor? Is it actually ok or has it physically broken?

I gave it a waggle and it seemed secure. One thing I have noticed recently is that during heavy braking there has been a little steering needed to correct the straightness as the vehicle was pulling one way. I am now wondering if the sensor has been slowly failing and has now died.

Do I need a radio code as I do not have one?

Proceed with extreme caution!
