I am completely f*cking stumped with my issue (not mine the f*cking V8).

Its a 3.9 Hotwire and in my 90".

It ran fine a few weeks ago, starting almost instantly.

I went away, come back and now it wont even attempt to spark!

Short list of whats done.

New coil
New Dizzy (complete unit)
New amplifier
New rotor arm (Gen)
New cap (Gen)
New leads (Bearmach)
New plugs (Bosch)
New fuel

There is a spark from #1 but its doesnt look the strongest to me.

Timing is ok (according to marks and the fact it ran!).

All earthing point and cables have been checked.

I am fooking stumped and getting desperate for a solution before i junk the damn thing!

You say you have a spark. I assume you have fuel. Make sure battery is fully charged then crank it over, if it doesn't fire remove spark plugs if wet with fuel dry and replace,. If dry then you're not getting fuel which indicates either the pump isn't running or the injectors aren't getting a trigger pulse.

If the plugs are wet, check for a spark (again) if no spark check ignition system (do a search) but if there is a spark, then mark position of dizzy, slacken off dizzy clamp and advance the ignition timing then try cranking it over again - if it fires let it warm up then re-set timing.

Yep often they can be coaxed into life with a very very charged battery (ideally hooked up to a big charger at the same time) and careful rotation of the dizzy while a mate cranks. Keep working back and to, ideally with a strobe light on the pulley too, until you find the sweet spot and it slowly starts to fire and get going, keep cranking, you'll know when it's going properly, if not it will stall again!

Thanks for the replies chaps.

Its been another fruitless weekend!

Ok. Its a brand new fully charged high CCA bosch battery.

Brand new fuel pump (and it works).

Brand new fuel filter.

I can see fuel is getting through the filter at a rate of knots but not sure if the injectors are firing any more. Plugs are wet...But not much. There isnt a strong smell of fuel either.

ECU could be shafted but it ran fine....But it will be tested this week (swapped for a known working one).

Keep the ideas coming as i am completely stumped.

spin it over with the plugs out, do you get a puff of fuel out of the plug holes?

disconnect the fuel pump then spin it over with the plugs earthed to the block, do you get a spark at each plug?

and where are you?!

Good point about the multiple sparks.

I'll try that next.

Motor is located on the Essex, Suffolk border (East).

Failing this (and i have sparks) i am beginning to wonder if junking the EFI and going to carbs will help?

Cheers!

I'm no expert on ECUs or the like but it sounds to me like something is getting damp - particularly at this time of year.

Bit of an update.

A mate (whos helping me) is with the 90 and I asked him to check the plugs.

All are firing.

In the mean time he has checked the injectors and there is no voltage getting to them (Narrowing it down finally!).

The relays are all working when the ignition is cranked too.

So by my reckoning this sounds like its a dodgy connection/wire rather than ECU?

Thanks for all the help. I truly don't know if I could have kept my sanity much longer!

Yep, should be battery voltage at the injectors and switched earth.

Connect a test lamp to the injector banks in parallel so you can physically see what is happening!
