Hi All,

To start I'm not after grid references or to have a route planned for me but..

One of the guys who is our usual laning group moved to the Black Isle, were thinking of meeting half wayish for some laning in Northumberland.

I've not looked at or into lanes in the area at all before and as I'm driving a fair distance would like the trip to be a goodun. Could some kind person suggest any hot spots, a rough area will do. Or the names of any famous must do lanes I'm sure with trail wise and an OS map I can figure the rest out.

Kielder and up that way I believe have some lanes but I've never driven them :)

I wouldn't bother too much with Northumberland, we did it on a C2C a couple of weeks ago.

Great lanes for newbies/non scratchy, nearly all with good surface and marked up. View are fantastic too. But I never got out of high box and we ended up going down to Co Durham earlier than planned and then across to Cumbria.

I'm supposed to be up going up to Edinburgh around the weekend of the 17th July and at some point wouldn't mind doing some laning around Northumberland either on the way or way back.....anyone interested/ recommend any routes?

Some good lanes between rothbury and wooler ,not much legal stuff over a kielder but we used to meet at hayden bridge and do a full day up through wark forest ,simonburn was the best but we were on quads and bikes ,you would lose a landy in there in winter so wouldnt advise it

Im sure I passed one going up the A1 in Northumberland. Only caught a quick glimpse of the signs though, plus I was on my own and didnt fancy getting stuck!
Unfortunately didn't get to do any laning while I was up north, I was only in the borders as well....Maybe next time!

Northumberland council have a website showing all the lanes. Google adopted highways...

Ah! Good shout Rosie!
I'm planning on making a return trip to the Scottish Boarders in the landy so I will see if I can get down a few!

put some pics up on my twitter from laning yesterday, was good fun - some nice easy lanes to take in the views and a also a couple of more technical bits, followed by a quick jaunt around the kielder forest track. :)

The pictures I saw looked pretty awesome! I have definitely got to get on some next time I go up north!! Did you go on your own or with a group Rosie?

Me and a friend that lives up here he has lived in Northumberland all his life so knows all the lanes which was handy! . Some of his other mates were going to come but didn't make it.

So..

Back to my original question, any chance of a hint where these good lanes are please Rosie. I do have a route roughly plotted but would obviously like to drive the nicest lanes possible.

Rough area will do as we're on an open forum.

Hardish. I would like to be able drive home but I'm not bothered about the odd dent.

If I grade it by Welsh lanes, the Bastard is fine the Pyg is a step too far.

Most the lanes up here are non scratchy and not very technical so you might not get what you are looking for - you certainly won't have any dents unless you drive with your eyes closed!
