Hi,

My 2A currently has the standard seats with no belts, and I have been thinking about putting some better seats in it. I have just spotted that someone near me is selling some nice impreza turbo bucket seats that would also allow me to fit some 4 point harnesses. Just wanted to know how much of a nightmare it is to fit non-universal/landrover seats in a 2A? is there anything to watch out for etc

The main reason is that I am planning on doing some green laneing later this year so was hoping for a bit more comfort and safety.

Many Thanks

Ryan

I had bucket seat's and a 4 point harness fitted to one of my old landy's.....it was a frickin nightmare.
The seat's were a pain in the arse to get in and out of, and the frickin harnesses just pinned you down and restrited you to much.....you need to be able to move about freely in your cab, so you can look out in all directions when off roading/ laneing.
Bucket seat's and harnesses are only good for one thing...racing! As you only need to look in front at where you are going.

Sorry, meant to say keep the standard seats and fit normal seatbelts

I got a set of seat's and belt's from a late defender for £50 out of a breakers yard. They fit well, and the belt is as good as any other.

The Impreza STI has racing style bucket seats and standard inertia reel seatbelts. There's not a lot of padding in the seats but the bases are quite deep and they're quite long front to back. There's not too much room between the wheel and bulkhead on a series if you're tall or fat. I'm both and I've replaced my seat back with a double thickness of camping mat with the "luxury" seat base.

Superb idea, I've got next weekend sorted.

i've got rover metro seats in mine (cos they were lying about) and they're really comfy. too much bucket and you cant get in, too long a seat base and you can't steer past your legs... also chopped the back metro seat to go in the middle, so I have 3 :)

I have Vauxhall Cavalier sports seats, with side boulsters in, 2 of the 4 mounting holes lined up, but had to fabricate brackets to make the seats bolt onto the land rover seat base.

I haven't got as far as seatbelts, plus im tall and dont need the seat to move as it dosent! A lot to look at I have discovered before swapping seats!

My 2A has buckets from some Japanese thingy & they are hopeless. I'm about 5'10" & the prev owner must have been a pygmy as my knees are up around my armpits.
I intend to go back to originals but my seat box is devoid of mounts- the alien buckets are bolted thru it. Photos I have seen show runners with verticals to take the seat pivot bolts. Do they simply bolt on to the seat box & could hence be purchased 2nd hand?
Craddock has great looking orig type seats brand new. Any comments?

RyanD, good to see that my off-roading didn't put you off. Hurry up and get the 2a on the road though I need a support vehicle for when my damn tow bar gets me into trouble again :)

I have Disco 1 seats with 4 point harnesses in mine and they were very easy to fit and are very comfy
