Hey,

Hope you guys can help.

My beloved 4.6 hse started to cause me problems a few months ago as she would'nt start. I've now had the ecu repaired as the dealer diagnosed the ecu had failed.

But before hand i had changed the crank sensor.

Now the ecu is refitted, she has fuel that she didn't have before the ecu was repaired, but she still won't go.

Do i have to set the air gap on the crank sensor or does anyone know how to do this without yet another trip to the dealer on a recovery truck.

Many thanks andy:mad:

hi andy i changed my crankshaft senser and didnot have to put any gap on it do you have a spark? is fuel getting to the plugs? j

hia, andy cheers for the reply again.

yes 12 volt supply between 2 of the pins when ignition on, nothing on the 3rd or when cranking

andy rarther than go steeles have you not got independet local to you ask you never know i had no spark or fuel it was bcm not talking to ecu took 5 mins guy came out and did it charged £50 j

getting fed up of this car now. I had loads of auto lecs come up and look at it no-one could fix the damn thing.

I wanted someone with t4 testbook to come and look at the car, and resynch ecu and becm together, as i had a suspicion it was that too.

So it went to the dealers, they did what they said was a full diagnostic, after i told them my suspicions, and said that it was the ecu at fault and wanted a further £1200 to replace it.

Have now had ecu repaired and tested, with a guarantee, put it on the car and still wont start.

Before the car didnt have any fuel smell but now it does, so i must say it does seem the ecu is working, but still no bloody spark!

The local independent doesn't do call out's apparently, typicall as my car can't be moved now, and i don't know any one else in the south wales (newport) area that carries the t4 testbook system to troubleshoot.

dont loose hope mate i was like thet myself. sounds like you have fault with imoberliser wish i could do more to help i saving up to get testbook as i to fed up paying out to get it fixed best of luck let us know how you get on j

andy

checked over the cam pos sensor wiring and wiggled it about no change, have unplugged the ecu again, engine turns over as before and no fuel smell, so ecu must be doing something now.

I'm waiting on an electrical schematic to be brought over to me to find exactly where and at what voltages should be on what plugs so hopefully that will help. As coil pack has 3 pins and only two have something on them.

Correct? not sure

An extra bit of luck the auto lec, i spoke to originally on this now knows someone who has test book, so if he has time he said he will be over tomorrow

RESULT -FINGERS CROSSED

Independant been up to see the car, ecu now seems to be working, everything all coded up, put autologic system on the car. Not showing any faults and should run as normal but still not starting.

Also could not access the air suspension ecu, any ideas.

Tommorrow now is going to be a wire for wire check of engine loom, for dodgey connections, broken wires and things.

main engine ecu under bonnet, andy. all seems to be in order on that side now.

Have now been checking the engine connectors, seem to have a short between 2 wires on the plug going to the cam sensor, both showing 12v when ignition switched and have continuity is this correct ?

i'll be taking the front cover off mine in the morning so if you havnt sussed it by then i will have a look on mine and test with meter!

No still not going - have had everyone under the sun look at it and still not going

Had to come to a point to stop as the bills were getting higher and higher till i was looking at just over £2000 i have spent already and still not running.

So the car is now sold - put it through auction as a non runner - apparently a land rover specialist bought it not sure who though, just word of mouth through friends in the trade.

Never mind i have a set of 4 19" RR sport alloys to sell now with 4 nearlly brand new tyres, a set of cream mats(aftermarket), a J locking wheelnut key, and a dealer fit quick release tow hitch for sale.

Hope i can get some money back on these

Gutted - i loved that car

Bet you buy another one.......perhaps after trying a sensible car like a Mondeo. Maybee that will go wrong though, and you will think to your self "its a Ford , so it will be cheap to fix, and then you find that the lift pump is only available from Fords and it is £550 + VAT ( and I am talking lift pump , not injection)

There is a member on here who has Rovacom and is based in the S. Wales area...Swansea, I think.
Best bet is put a post for "Rovacom user S. Wales" and he will no doubt pop his head above the wall.
