Noisy rear diff????

Getting a constant whirring noise from my rangie. I was thinking diff but a friend says if its constant n getting louder at speed, any thoughts?

Diff noise will usually change pitch on acceleration or deceleration. Usually pinion bearings. Sounds like a shaft winding down as speed decreases. Feel for play in pinion flange. If it can be moved at all up or down bearings are duff.
