Hi newby here, and to Landrover just bought 3 weeks ago a 06 plate 2.0 td4 freelander Auto has a noise from front wheels when braking a kind of snatching sound when comes to a holt and clunks when setting off again it had new pads when I bought it I took it back to the dealers I bought it from and they said it was the pads wearing in (don’t think) this is less prominent if I brake to a stop in neutral any ideas? brakes seem to work fine? Sorry its long winded

My 56 reg did the same..sends u mad- a clonk when breaking....a mechanic friend stripped the calipers down, he said that the hollow retaining pins ? were packed full of grease, and the vacuum this created allowed the pads to move in the caliper...i think thats what he meant, no problem now for 18 months. Another suggestion is the bushes on the drop arm link

took it back to dealers they removed the callipers no faylt found they say it is the brakepads and that it will wear in? other forums say they have had same problem with pads may change pads in a month if no better

Could be excess of brake rubber grease on the pins causing the vacuum/compression, but could also be worn discs? Or maybe the new pads are slightly bigger then the old and thus are wearing on the rusty bits of the old discs.
