Reconnect the battery? 
Which RR is it? What year? Standard head unit? Does everything else work?

Battery was reconnected and that when I found I didnt have any sound, the Radio and cd seem to be working as I can change channels etc , my RR is a L322 2006 3ltreReconnect the battery?

When mine went it was the amp.

Check the fuse to the amp. Not sure which one it is.
Try disconnecting the battery again and reconnect after a few minutes, follow the proper procedure.

Next time, ignition off,
put the the kettle on,
run around the block with the dog and then disconnect the battery after making a cuppa..

Had this problem on mine, I disconnected both terminals from the battery, and touched the earth and positive cables together for about a minute I then left both cables disconnected from the battery for half an hour and then reconnected them to the battery,
A very experienced auto electrician told me to do it, he said that by touching the two leads together it discharges capacitors in the radio unit which resets and clears issues, he says there is a TSB regarding issues with for Ford Focus radio heads and the method I have explained is method to correct it.
