Hello, first post here. Bought myself an 1984 landy yesterday which has a very good chassis and bulkhead. One minor problem is that the thing wont go into reverse. I bought it thinking it will only be the reverse light switch but upon removing it and trying reverse it still doesn't work :(.

All the other gears work fine just reverse not working. The engine has been changed to a 2.8 iveco 2.8 engine but the box is still a landy box. Any ideas since its not the switch. Hope I ain't bought a lemon.

What happens is you push it over to the left and up and it won't sit in in that position unless you hold it there.Holding it there the 90 does still to pull but once it gets any revs it just kicks out of reverse making a grinding noise if you try hold it in.

Any ideas would be really appreciated.
Thanks
Kevin

it does jam it ;) you have to remove it on the R380 if you do the conversion like I did but all you need to do is unscrew it a little if someones tightened it up too far

Edit: James was a couple of seconds ahead :p

Just feels like it isn't getting right into reverse and it kicks out. Just like half in. As I say it does start to move slightly back then kicks out. Could it be needing a new box?

if rev switch is wound out then yes or rebuilt ,early boxes suffered from poor engagement of rev idler even when working properly so teeth edges wore on idler and lay shaft which causes it to be thrown out

Ah I see, thanks for the help. Dam dear say I've bit off more than I can chew! Sonic the idler is shot does that mean all the other gears would still work fine? Sorry trying to understand.

Thank
