hi all, i have a bit of a problem

on my way home today my car spluttered a couple of times, had a real squel of a sound when the turbo got up to about 3.5krpm on the rev counter. when i next changed gear i had no power. restarting the engine solved the no power thing for a couple of seconds, and i had to drive about 30 miles or so with the complete lack of power. it's as if the turbo is not cutting in.
also i noticed the big hose at the front of the engine bay was expanding, it was nornally round, but when you rev the engine you can see it expand.

any ideas

Reet then tinka, think weve had this one afore. . .go into search, und type in, smoking exhaust, sucking turbo, that should help ya,its by a member called topknot, its an easy fix if thats all it is, you will have to also change both the rubber inlet pipes and clean out all the ****e in the egr ,but its all caused by the rubber tube coming away inside the air filter near the maf, best oh luck . . ..:)

i have read the thread, but i don't remember seeing any smoke out the back of mine, or oil spitting out the dipstick

test book pointed to the turbo being buggered, and the local stealer says the turbo actuator is shafted. lr assistance diagnosed the turbo. so thats 2 diff people who have looked at it.

does this seem a feasable diagnosis, as it's different to what you guys reckoned ( i know you have not seen the car)

cheers

Ok ya could be unlucky and have a shot turbo. . . .but check that little air breather filter at rear of engine that the silly plastic pipe has not come orft ,it fits into where the air filter and maf is [if its ok] fine but youll be real mad if ya have a new turbo fitted and it still dont work. . .
