hi folks, I've been searching all night and all I've managed to do is confuse my self.
The story first:
a 97 dse engine replacement, went from 97 engine with no erg to a 98 with one, kept the wiring loom from engine intact and included the ecu that came with the engine. Everything went fine right up until the start it up stage lol.
no diesel at the injectors.
so:
went through the list of things mentioned on this forum;
fuel pump working fine, pumps to fiter when ignition turned on
bled through to pump (can see diesel coming from return)
checked the solinoid clicks and took it out just to check
called the local dealer (Navan Ireland) and they said that because I had used the original ecu from the engine that it should be ok,
but still no diesel at the injectors.
It seems from what i read here this is not right?
Any ideas of where to go now would be greatly appreciated, the p38 has been lying up now for over a year! and this is the secound engine change (the fisrt one had timing and pump issues) starting to go bald and/or mad!
thanks in advance

Patience Donal. 'Tis late and the big brains are in repose. I'd help you but I'm a nob and a RRC guy so it would be of little value.

Go on over to the introduce yourself part of the forum and say your hellos and then be patient. Welcome to the forum.

I suppect your BECM and the newer EDC are not talking to each other, being as the EDC is from a different vehicle.

Donal, you could try PM'ing "Rick the Pick" he'll also know if its a BECM/EDC problem......or Irishrover for advice?

Has Irishrover been about lately or has retirement kicked in???

If you have fitted the ECM from the EGR vehicle you will need to sync it to the BECM. It carries it's own security code that will be different from the old none EGR unit.

It would help if you said where you are, there maybe someone near you with a Syncmate or Nanocom for the diesel.

the engine fitted is a 1998 fitted with egr? no p38 had egr fitted in 1998 did the engine come from a bmw car?
if it is not from a p38 or a vauxhall omega and is out of a bmw car it prob has incorrect injection pump.

Yes they did, EGR started on MY 1998 models.

Second that, I've a 98MY DSE outside the door that proves it.

Donal, in all likelyhood the EDC code (called the EMS code in the BECM) for the BECM is incorrect. If it was me I'd try it first with the original diesel ECU(EDC). At least this one is already coded to the BECM and so you shouldn't have a sync issue preventing the immobiliser from deactivating.

It would be worth getting a sync mate or nano as suggested above.

In the long run it would be a good idea to get your BECM unlocked, Irishrover used to do it but he sold his gear, he might know who else has the capability in Ireland.
Once its unlocked there are a probably a few guys in the South with Faulmates who can help you out with this sort of thing. I'm in Kerry but I'm sure there are others closer to you. PM me if you want to have a chat about it.

I thought of using the original one but unfortunatly it wouldn't fit the plug for the engine loom and i was too parinoid to replace it, the new one is slighty different in as much as it has an extra plug for the egr.
I wil purchase the syncmate, but there is one other thing that poped into my head: the p38 that the engine came out of was a manual, .. just wondering would that upset the plan any?
i sent irishrover a pm

The autobox commands the EDC to perform a torque reduction when an autobox shift is going to take place but I don't think the EDC is different manual to auto.

just a thought about the different ecus manual and auto, when going through the process of getting mine chipped spoke to superchips fitter who said there are different ecu part numbers but within the ecu the chip itself there are numerous different ones hence the ecu needs to be taken apart to get the number of the chip.
the guys i ending up buying my chip from also did ask the question if it was manual or auto as the chip is different

A quick update gentlemen :)
Purchased a nice shiny new sync mate!
plugged it in and.....

single red flash:(
not responding to wake up

any suggestions as to next move?
