Thought I'd regale you all with my tale of woe and my final redemption thanks to the forum. Firstly lets get things straight - I'm a DJ/ radio presenter and only intermediate with mechanics ( I'm a doctor Jim, not a mechanic!- Dr Mc Coys voice ) but thanks to the help and advice given freely on here I have managed to repair "Old Strawberry" my Un-trusty P38.
I won't go into Ye old death wobble on this post as that is still a work in progress but regarding overheating this is my story- Every time I hit a slight incline the temp needle would rise and rise until the red light came on, so bought a new rad from Island 4x4 for £125, removed old ( without vicscous fan tool ) replaced with new, then upon reading more post's, immediately removed again ! back to Island to buy water pump, thermostat, a couple of hoses , serpentine belt and ac belt- sorted ! Got it all fitted ( bought the viscous fan spanner, made it so much easier) Even sussed out the belt tensioner , the little 'u' shaped hose at back of block which had split was an absolute pig and in the end I took the hose form the other end ( connected by a copper pipe) of and it gave me a bit of slack to pull the u shaped hose through so I could get the spring clip off and the replace it, when that was done I also replaced the other hose just for the hell of it. Then I jacked up the front of the car slightly and re-filled from the top right hose until the header was almost full then I fixed the hose and filled the header with the engine running then just kept filling the header and squeezing the hoses- took it for a spin- luckily I live at the bottom of a hill for 1/3rd of a mile so I spent the afternoon flooring it up the hill until it overheated then filling and squeezing, this took a few hours until it didn't overheat any more so I took it on the A2 for a longer incline and no overheating at all- Fook me ! I've only done it !:D Still nearly died with the death wobble but I've new 18" wheels ordered to replace 20' and when that is rectified I'll let you all know. But just goes to show a trained monkey could do it if I could and he wouldn't swear as much. I shall give you all a shout out on my next show- luckysoulradio ( took the w's off the front and the dot com off the back for obvious reasons) THANKS GUYS :D:D

Next time ensure the rad is full at bleed hose in rad and check that bleed hose is not blocked at all this ensures better bleeding of air from the system :)
