I have a high fuel rail pressure when cold starting. If the engine is warm, as long as I clear the code it doesn't come back until I next cold start it.

After fixing an issue with the fuel return hose from the inkjectors the problem improved but it did not entirely fix it.

I have just noticed (a little stupid I didn't notice before) that my glow plug light on the dash never lights up. After checking, I am getting no power to my glow plugs. Fuses ok etc

My question is, would a faulty control module cause the light to never show? There isn't a glow plug fault in the codes and from my experience (which is admittedly mainly fork lift trucks) if the control module goes, the light may flash or stay on constantly, i've never had one just not show at all.

Are the glow plugs actually needed at current ambient temperatures? Not all modern diesels need the glow plugs except in very low temperatures.

It was about 3 degrees celsius outside at the time, plus it had been sitting overnight in colder temperatures so I would probably expect them to to be needed

Did it start OK?
Well, it starts but it starts slowly and there is a high fuel rail pressure fault. It is only cold starts it happens, if I warm it up and clear the code all is fine, I can start it as many times as I want warm with no issue... this is why I don't think it is one of the pumps.

It has had a new pressure sensor and regulator, new fuel return pipes (as the one way valve was leaking back towards the injectors)

3 injectors that were in particularly bad shape have been replaced and now the leak off from each on is pretty equal.

I am just trying to think of things that could cause this just on a cold start (before I replace the return pipe with the one way valve it was happening all the time)

Did you plug the glow plug harness back together? the glow plugs are not current monitored on the TDV6 so won't set a DTC if they're not operable.
