Ha - I wish. I think I was getting just over 16k out of a set of 4.
They were 235/55/19s though. I don't drive like a maniac by any stretch of the imagination, so gawd only knows why I got so little out of them.

My current ones on the A6 are even worse - coming up to needing a 3rd set on the front in 2 years. Averaging 8k on the front but still running the originals on the rear at nearly 5mm. I was warned about this before I brought it, but they are 255/35/19s.

It seems the lower the profile of tyre - the quicker they wear. Much quicker.

The misses beast had 4 new monster tyres fitted today (Pirelli Scorpion STR) and they look the biss.

She only does 6 to 8k a year so these should last her a minimum of 3 to 5 years fingers crossed.

The car had 2 good Continental tyres on the rear so I had one moved to the back as a spare and the other one I took home and its now in the garage as another just in case spare.

? Of all the AT tyres I think the CC AT is the gnarliest looking.

I agree that the CC AT is a very aggressive tread indeed.

But mine are the more road-biased Conti4X4Contact.

They are superb in the winter - almost at the level of a dedicated snow tyre.
Loads of sipes so they are great in the wet.

Much, much quieter than an AT.

I've been off road with them a lot and they've never given me any heart-wrenching moments of the 'Will I get through here?' kind.

Pirelli Scorpion STR's

had mine (new) on for 6 month / 6k+ miles ..
on-road .. gripping to say the least

tyre fitters had them at 36psi ..
after some research i reduced that to 32
( LR's '30' had the steering 'grabbing' a bit too much at road contours for my liking
( '33' felt a bit too 'hard' .. so settled for 32 as a compromise

recently checked tread depth .. even wear on the fronts
same tread depth on rears as on fronts .. except for the center tread (rears)
which looks to be aprox. 0.5mm less .. ( i.e. worn )
so now .. judging by aprox. measuring of tyre bulge on flat/level tarmac ..
am running 32 fronts .. 30 on rears ..
( hippo 'van' 'n no load .. i.e. not even back seats for added weight ..
( gets used as a 'private' vehicle .. max load .. one passenger in front .. full fuel tank
( grocery shopping etc .. in rear 'space' .. ..

and judging what rubber has worn off in above stated mileage ..
have now decided to take it easy on cornering

.. boring but practical ..

I have just fitted 4 Conti X contact AT on TD4 Auto gs Chose them as they seem to have much deeper tread than the road tyres usually fitted , which look bald after looking at the 285/75 16 BFG MT on my 110

will be interesting to see relative wear rates as other Freelander has a couple of Michelins and two others all virtually new as well .

It looks like Perilli scorpian str 215/65R16 are £114 each fitted and continental 4x4 contact 215/65R16 are £100 each fitted. Both come with new valve and balancing. Are these goods prices?

Both are listed as 4x4 and summer tyres.

Having lived with GT Grabber ATs for the last couple of weeks I can honestly say I cant fault them.

A little more of a rumble on the road but I've yet to have them stuck off road in either very muddy fields while shooting or on the off road course at Billing.

Couldnt recommend them enough

The web seems to state the Pirelli Scorpion STR is a summer tyre. But they say it's ok in light snow. Is it really a summer tyre? From pics on the web it looks like it has M+S on the side.

Other option is the Continental 4x4 Contact which I think Freelander 2's have as original fit. These come up as winter tyres. Also says it's ok in light snow.

don't know the definative answer but my Pirelli STR's were great in the last two winters snow, and they went through a little bit more than light snow anorl

Thanks. That sounds good. Do they look like these? Some sites show a different tread which I think was from the previous S/T rather than STR tyre. STR attached.

Just placed an order with mytyres.com for 4 Pirelli Scorpion STR tyres, the cheapest found on the internet at £138.60 each fitted. I am just so fed up of the noise the present tyres are making that they have to go. Another Kwikfit victim, went in for a puncture repair and came out with two new Uniroyal tyres that are a compleat mismatch and very noisey.

I don't know where this 'light snow' recommendations are coming from.

No-one told me that - so I've been driving through deep snow for the last two winters with my Conti 4X4 Contacts with no bother at all.

I had no problem last year with the bit of snow we had with the Michelin tyres I had on then.

That's me on the right. That's the flat bit , to get there I have to climb a steep hill which is about a 1 mile climb from bottom to top.

I paid £571 for 5x STR's fitted. They were 215/65R16 98H type. They were advertised at local tyre fitter place which is part of a small chain. When I went to see them they offered to do them for the web price, saving £31 off the counter price. Tyres ordered and fitted 2 days later. My grabber AT2's have gone as they're crap and I regret buying em.
