New Tyres fitted, sounds like a propeller

Hi There,
I have recently fitted Two new tyres to the rear of my Freelander 1 td4 and for the last few weeks while driving it sounds like there is a Propeller under the engine. I have swapped over the tyres front to back but only made matters worse so I have changed them back.
I now have measured the circumference of the tyres and found a difference of 6.5 CM between the rear and front tyres. Will this cause damage to the VCU or any other part if I continue to drive .

A 6.5cm difference in circumference is just over 2cm in diameter - so that's like a 10mm difference in 'tread wear'.

Its just over a 3% difference in tyre size.

So it is quite a big difference. I'd be very wary of driving like that.

I think there was a guide from LR as to the maximum difference - but not sure what it is.

New rear tyres must be the same as the tyres on the front. Not just same size, but same make and type. This is important or you will destroy the IRD, VCU and or rear diff. A Freelander1 has a maximum diameter difference, front to rear of 5mm. Any more and you WILL cause damage that is very costly to put right.
