Hi everyone,
I need to replace a tyre at the moment I have on BFG 215/65r16 at tyres with the knobbly type tread They are quite expensive, I had a look on the 4x4tyres.co.uk and they reckon they can supply a tyre-insa Turbo for £90.99 fitted at a local tyre garage that is there agent has anyone used this sight and doe the price seem a bit low like may be a scam??

I have used them in the past, cheap and long lasting but dont try cornering fast in the wet, they are made to last not to grip like a limpet

Why on earth would you think it is a scam??? £90 is likely pricey for a Freelander tyre, but tyres have gone up a lot in price.

Insa Turbo is a remould tyre.

I would not mix and match new and remoulds personally. I also wouldn't run 1 odd tyre. You can usually get away with different tyres front/rear. But in a Freelander you need to be aware the AWD system is tyre sensitive and running odd tyres can cause issues. I'd personally only run a matching set on such a vehicle.

Fairly typical remoulds really. I have used them before, no problems.
They are good value, and quite good off road.
But take it a bit easy on the road, they won't have the cornering and braking performance of a top brand AT.

Didn't realise this was a Freelander. Thought it was an old Series or Ninety when I saw it on LZ Live.

In that case, definitely only replace all four at once.

If you don't need a mud tyre, don't fit a mud tyre. They're pretty useless on anything but mud.

For normal driving on various terrains it's difficult to better Yokohama Geolander g015.
Nobody has mentioned Mud tyres, the op clearly said AT.... you need to read the posts better ;)

I am equally guilty, I thought he was talking about Insa Turbo Dakar, which are a knobbly tyre.

The new LZ Live doesn't show which forum the thread is in like the old one, just the post and thread title.

tbh I don't know what LZ Live is, I was just looking at new posts from the menu.

Insa Turbo are just a remould maker, they make loads of tread styles including winter and van tyres plus others. They do a BFG AT copy too:

Not actually called LZ live any more, but if you click on Whats New, and then Latest Activity, you will get a list of all the posts in real time.

The only part of the forum I use with any regularity, as it saves having to read about stuff I am not much interested in, like Freelanders.

It isn't actually as good as the old LZ Live, like most functions of the new forum.

Got bfg on at the moment only need 1 tyre damaged side wall and this particular insa tyre is the same tread pattern as what is on the freelander all of the other 3 are good tyres.

Well I don't know, but it is posted in the Freelander section.

Its on the front of the freelander surely I do not have to scrap the other 3 tyres??

The tread is similar, although not 100% the same, but the compound and construction will be different. And as said, the Insa Turbo is a remould and not a new tyre. I have nothing against remoulds, I have several sets of them. But I wouldn't personally mix them with new tyres.

2005? Is that Freelander 1 or 2?

I don't know how sensitive the Haldex awd system is in the FL2 to tyres. But lots of people have ended up causing issues with the VCU on the Freelander 1 by running odd tyres. You'd want to check the height more than anything. Although as per my paragraph above, I still wouldn't choose to mix a remould like this as it could cause handling, braking and wear issues & differences.

As for options....

Sadly BFG tyres are very pricey at the moment and are generally the most expensive option you can buy.

So you could do what you are suggesting or you could buy 1 new BFG tyre. Or maybe even buy 2 and use the other as a suitable spare.

Other options would be to buy a pair of front matching tyres and use the old good one as a spare or sell it.

Or replace all 4 tyres and sell on the 3 good ones.

All 4x4 vehicles should have matched sets of tyres, make, size, tread pattern, and wear.
They should be replaced in sets.
Obviously, that is the letter of the law, and probably not everyone observes this to the letter in real life.

Presumably some get away with it, and others don't. So it is really up to you what you do, we can only advise on best practice.

It's always best to carry out tyre rotations on AWD vehicles, with the main aim of keeping all tyres to a similar wear.

The Freelander is particularly fussy about tyres, basically all should be the same type, and tread wear reasonably even. However one thing that's absolutely vital is the rear tyres have less wear than the front. Fitting new tyres to the front will cause rapid IRD failure, which will cost more to replace then fitting 4 new premium tyres.

I asked in the past, you can compensate wear by pumping 01-02 bar in the rear. I do that and seems ok.
