I have had my disco 2 facelift 4.0 v8 auto 2003my for about 6 months and I love it but would like to fix a few of the niggles. m and s lights do not light up when mode switch is pressed nor does it show the autobox in the digital display. parking sensors don't work (towbar does) although you can here sensors clicking and occasionally when selecting reverse it bleeps one short bleep. light on switch flashes fast. drivers window sometimes jams at about 1 inch open and needs some force to get working again. get a clicking noise from rear when cornering like a stone in the tyre and power steering pump noisy.
any advise or help welcome
thanks

The window is probably the quadrant on the actuator - fairly cheap to fix but a bit of a palaver getting the door card off (get some replacement plastic pins as they snap).

Power steering pump - does it have the right fluid in it? Some people say you need the special Texaco low-temperature stuff.

Clicking noise - wheel bearing?

I would suggest getting a nanocom or similar to check for stored codes.

Hello Ian,
Welcome to the forum.
Can you complete your profile with your place of residence.
Sometimes maybe someone who is near you can help.
Only thing I could possibly help with is a used power steering pump which came off my 2002 Disco2 after a wrong diagnosis and I fitted a new one which I left in place.

Hi Ian, I've just replaced the front window regulator on my D2 and it was an easy and cheap job.

Part from these people: LR006373 | Front Window Regulator RH

To do this job you need to remove the door panel, then drop the window to access these two fixings:

&

Now position the glass at the top of the door and jam it in place.

Slacken but don't remove the three 'keyhole' bolts; remove the regulator retaining bolts, then 'jiggle' the regulator out of the door.

Disconnect the electric motor connector. Now remove the motor from the old regulator and install onto new one, ensuring it looks like this:

It's much easier to do than to describe,

Dave

Ian,
In relation to your auto gearbox dilemma, it sounds very much as if somebody has been playing with a Nanocom or Hawkeye and may have inadvertently set it as a manual rather than an auto. You need to get it plugged in and check that it shows it as an auto. Mine was exactly the same when I got it but a quick fix with a Nanocom sorted it.

thanks for replies and will find a local company with the right computer thing to check
another thing is that the sat nav radio sucks. the disc is 14 years old and is really basic. I have a tom tom so big issue there but the digital display when hot virtually disappears. can you get a head unit to replace it that works with the cd autochanger and steering wheel controls
cheers

Hi Ian it is perfectly possible to replace the head unit with something much more modern and very easy to sway over.

You'll need to get a head unit that is capable of being steering-wheel-control operated, but these are more and more common.

You could also consider going for one with SD card slot and USB key socket; instead of CD's which are old hat nowadays.

You could also get a head unit that has GPS built-in with a fold-out big screen, making it much easier to use.

Good luck in your search,

Dave
