Hiya folks! My first Freelander puchased last week (02 plate) and I think something's weird with the steering... As I turn closer to full lock (both directions), the steering gets a bit stiffer and the car gets more reluctant to move, whether forwards or reverse. For instance, if I was reversing down a hill & turned full lock, the car would actually stop! Tyres aren't rubbing on anything as far as I can see. Is this 'normal' behaviour for a Freelander? 215/65x16 tyres.

Due to the Freelander set up with the VCU, when on full lock the steering will be tight anyway. It will feel like you have your handbrake on when turning around a tight bend. It shouldn't be as tight as to stop you completely going down hill on full lock though I would have thought.

I would check (as Shynet says) the VCU. Easiest way to do it is to draw a straight line (with chalk or Tipex) along your prop shafts and VCU then drive down the road a bit. You should see that the lines on the rear and front props have moved differently. Then try turning on full lock and both should really move evenly.

Loads of info on here regarding how to do it, just try searching Tipex test or VCU check.
