Hi all,

Just purchased an ex mod 2.5n/a 1992 defender 110 - which was reconditioned by the mod in 2008 from withams. Always fancied a defender and went for it!

Got a fairly good grounding of cars/engines etc, but not really sure where to start with it...any advice on first things to do (maintenance etc) or purchases that are essential would be much appreciated!

Trying not to cover old threads etc, but as its ex mod i presume its in a different ball game than civi landys...

Thanks! Sam

:welcome: A full service and fluid change is a good place to start. It'll help you get to know it as you crawl under and over it and might give you a few clues to up and coming problems and you'll have fun finding out what's supposed to go where :)

So......new air/oil/fuel filters.

Change fluids in engine, gearbox, transfer box, front and rear diffs. Check level in steering box, front swivels (is there oil or oneshot grease in them) brake and clutch reservoirs (if black expect seals to go soon), PAS fluid.

Grease prop u/js and steering ball joints (if they have nipples).......By the time you've done that you'll probably notice a whole bunch of leaks and will have spotted a list of issues to sort which will grow forever longer no matter how many you tick off.

There's very little difference between ex mod and civvy Landies apart from the astronomical price of any part that was fitted to military only vehicles and the fact that civilians never manage to inflict such a highly proffessional level of abuse that is standard among squaddies.

Enjoy :)
