Hi every body.
Have not got a Landy at the moment.
Am looking for a defender series 3 lwb 109, pre 1979.
I use to do most of the maintenance on my old cars, but cannot now get on with all these engine management systems, sensors etc.
Current car is a Mondeo 2.2 turbo diesel, which I bought for its torque, as we had a caravan.
The only problem encountered was a problem/problems with the egr valve. After a lot of research on the internet, I simply blanked it off, problem solved.
For years I have been looking for a VW t2, l eventually found one but my wife had a her reservations.
She liked the small MG’s, so I bought an MGTF, which we have enjoyed and now belong to the owners club.
I believe the lwb has the potential for a great camper, fairly easy to work on and is British.
I thank you all for reading this and hope I have not bored too much!
Regards,

Welcome to LZ! :)

I think you need to look into the history and terminology of Land Rovers a bit if you are going to fit in with the other enthusiasts.
For a start, there is no such thing as a Defender Series.
Defenders are a coil spring vehicle built after about 1990.
Series are a leaf sprung vehicle built prior to 1983. The last Series were Series 3, before that were Series 2as, Series 2 were only built for a few years after the end of Series 1, which where the original Land Rovers built from 1948.
There is also no need to refer to a 109" LWB. All Series 3 LWB were 109" wheelbase.

So what you are after is a Series 3 109", or if you prefer, a Series 3 LWB. They come in different variants, truck cab, hard top (what other vehicles call a van), or Station Wagon, with windows and seats in the back. They are generally the most sought after, and hence expensive.

Best of luck with the camper. Lot of info on the forum about camper conversions. Forum search should reveal.

Hi brianp38dse,
Thank you for your kind welcome.
I am new to all this forum stuff and have in fact sent you a similar message that seems to have gone elsewhere !
I have a lot to learn about land rovers, although in the past I did my own repairs, maintenance to my old cars.
The structure of the vehicle concerns me the most, I should get by on the bodywork and mechanics, using books etc.
I see this as a large learning curve, although I have do friends in the MG Owners Club, who have particular skills and may be able to help me.
Best regards,
