Steering was a bit hard when the car is stopped/parking and worked well otherwise. Nevertheless I decided to replace it with a new non OEM one and it worked quite well. A couple of weeks later I noticed a few drops of fluid and traced it to the hose going from the pump to the box and took the car to a mechanic to replace the hose which he did. Immediately after and ever since, the steering was like the old pump being difficult when parking and OK but not excellent otherwise. Then a week ago I took it to another mechanic to replace the hose from the reservoir to the pump as I noticed it started to crack. He replace the hose and now it's even worse when parking and it is humming all the time!
They bled the air out of the box and I made sure they replaced the lost fluid with new fresh fluid and still problems. What are they missing?

Bear in mind in both cases I went to the mechanic with no fluid loss at all.

Another question before I buy a new pump. I took the old pump apart and couldn't see anything specific that may wear or break. What goes wrong with the pumps and what is the PAS pump seal kit for?

Thanks

+1 for the pump. Your symptoms are exactly the same as on Wendys TDi 300 Disco. New pump in (easy job) and all was well, in fact better than ever !

But goes wring with the pump? And how would a brand new pump get damage by replacing a hose? The damage was immediate and unexplainable.
