I have just bought an 86RR 3.5 manual/carb and would like to know about the strange piped in exhaust gas installation running down both sides of the heads and piped into the casting.can anybody elabotrate?
The car is registered as 1986 but it has a vertical radiator grill is this correct?

The car is in really great condition but has a missfire through the exhaust and after fitting new diaphams plugs leads and dissie cap the problem is still there ...........what next?

I intend to get it up and running and need a radiator if any body out there has one.

I love these cars best driving position of all nothing compares.

Thanks John

Can you still get the genuine Landrover parts? I'm sure I read on here at some time that all the stock had been bought by 'Intermotor' and that's all you could get these days? I've put an Intermotor dizzi cap and rotor arm on mine as it was all I could get at the time (the rotor arm was falling in bits) but I know I've had problems with them before on other (older) cars where the rotor arm used to catch on the distributor cap. The other favourite was the carbon brush dropping out of the centre contact on the cap. As it was small and black, you never noticed it until you put everything together and then wondered why it didn't run. Happy days:rolleyes:

stuart normally gets my bits for me as the dealer round here is about as much use as a p38 in the rain!

he had said he had trouble gtting bits and there were all sorts of subcontracting going on , for one the caps had gone black like the lucas ones not the LR ones which used to be blue.

But it still coems in LR bags and boxes and after the trouble I had with even lucas parts I wouldnt use other than genuine apart form magnecor leads!

I think fanatic is right about the pipework but how did the car get this option as I have never seen it before, by the way it makes it bloody hard to get at the plugs.
As for the the genuine parts , yes I bought original where available.
Could the missfire be a sticking tappet if not I think its heads off.
Whilst looking for a radiator for this car I realised that bits are getting hard to find for these old models and in passing I see the prices for VG classics are going through the roof. The next one to buy will be the LSE.
Has anybody got a large shed somewhere?
John

I hear that, I have 3 at the moment and with two other cars its getting tight for space lol

I would take all that air crap off , I took what was remaining off mine and it runs great

That Pulsair injection was a PIA back then - I'd almost forgotten about ! I'd remove it completely as the pipes that go into the exhaust ports were prone to rusting/leaking.
Getting the carbs balanced and keeping them right is you biggest chore....
Its alot easier with EFI.;)
