Hi I'm Marley from London, new owner of a Freelander 1.
Was gonna post in a section but if someone can help reply, I want to replace all four tyres I have they are currently 225/55 ZR17 I've found on some sites (freelanderspecialist) that you CAN fit 235/55 R17s on a 17" rim, would it be advisable to fit 235/55s or stick with 225/55?
Not sure which way to go here...
Cheers and hello all!
Marley

You do realise that you are barely gaining anything by the size swap, 11mm divide that by 2 and you're talking 5.5mm which is barely the tread depth of the tyre and 10mm on width.

What exactly are you trying to achieve in your proposed swap from standard size?

Trying to achieve nothing apart from replacing 4 worn tyres, but have seen on the other site I've namechecked that they recommend 235/55 R17s... so not sure on tyre size or what to get fitted

I dont know what the standard size is, 225 55 ZR17s on the car and a few sites say 235/55/R17s ok for 2005 and some say 225/55/17 so not sure which way to go... would rather find out the definitive factory tyre size

Like I say, 10mm width and 11mm diameter change isn't going to change anything much at all and certainly not noticeably, now jumping to a 235/65 r17 would alter your gearing enough to notice, a 1.6% raise is almost insignificant in real terms, you can fit almost anything under the arches.
