New freelander owner with a vcu question

I'm sort of somewhere in the middle on this, I recently changed my VCU but it was because one of the bearings had disintegrated so I thought it best to seeing as I had it apart, but if you're happy to regularly do the one wheel up test and keep the cash until needed then I'd say that's sensible too, to be fair the advice to just get a new one fitted for peace of mind is equally applicable :)
 
Ok decided I will change it for piece of mind. Does anyone know if bell engineering can deliver?
 
Just to add mine has got 86000 on the clock and drives like new no problems at all.who gets to say when it'e gonna Fxxk up.Like has been said it ain't broke leave the FUxxing thing alone.Rant over

I fitted a new GKN one last year and it was so tight as to be almost un-drivable, far tighter than the old one I was replacing! Sent it back for a refund and discovered that there had been so many returns that GKN were doing blanket refunds on request.


Ok decided I will change it for piece of mind. Does anyone know if bell engineering can deliver?

Yeh, I wouldn't mind betting the "new" GKN units sold today have been sitting on shelves since F1 production and although they haven't been used, have aged.

I think I'd have more confidence in a reconditioned one from a reputable company.
 
Just to throw in my experience over 3 different freelanders. One I have now I just took the VCU off at just shy of 170k! It's always had good tyres and been used on the motorway a lost. The l series I had I changed it at 120k as it started to hop in multi story car parks round the corners. And finally at 68k the k series really needed doing but a lorry drove into that and wrote it off before I had a chance. That one was used least and for short trips although always had good tyres. So overall i think it's a case if keep a look out as it can fail any time ;)
