new engine time!!!!!!!!!!!!

after many airlocks changing therm and waterpump i have now found out my heads warped(no pun intended)and since it has a few othr niggley problems have decided rather than sort it out i`d go for a differant engine.so i have found this geezer in stoke who has fully rebuilt 300 tdi`s with new timing belts gaskets pump etc checks crankshaft bearings cylinders and pistons for 650.to take out mine and replace he charges 250 sounds like a nice deal to me his name is mark i can pass on his number to any one who wants it he also fits them into defenders for around the same price

Depends on the quality of the rebuild, but sounds expensive to me.

what do es any 1 else think? i thought it was a bit of a deal myself

Sounds a good price to me, Nextdoor but one paid a lot more. £1500 or so. Did look nice and shinny though. (I know this wont last long with heat and Mud etc, etc)

Sounds like a good deal to me, if it's a good rebuild....being shiny on the outside doesn't tell you anything about the quality of the rebuild.
Having your head skimmed should be about £40

About 6 weeks ago I had a 300tdi head skimmed and new head gasket cost £40

650 quid for a fully rebuilt tdi is a good price but you've got to ask yourself about the quality. You'd have to pay about three times that to get one from a reputable supplier. Can you get any word of mouth recomendations from this bloke's previous customers?

Or alternatively buy a second hand tdi out of a scrapper for a few hundred quid, condition not important so long as it's a runner. Swap it for yours while you totally rebuild it thus knowing exactly what's gone into it. Then stick the rebuilt original lump back in and sell the temporary replacement.
