Fitted replacement rear diff today (300Tdi 90, 1994)

Has cured clunks and metallic sound like a metal bar in bicycle spokes

New noise which sounds similar to the noise ruber band wind up aeroplanes used to make

Hoping it will reduce as it runs in - wondering about adding some molyslip?

I didn't play with it John - was a new LR unit which I just fitted

Perhaps wrongly assumed it would come set up as it should be - that was part of the attraction for me compared with replacing all the bearings on my knackered one

if it is noisy and not something else ,sound will travel, get them to send another and return it dont use anything, you cant make a poor diff better

If I'm hearing correctly new complete diff/ with a pinion gear?

Did you set the pre load side to side of the diff in the carrier bearings? Trewey posted a how to on here quite simple.

Dosen't matter if new or used as the ring and pinion need to mesh correctly, this is done by shims on the pinion gear. New diff with old pinion gear = a noise rear end

Our was this new diff fitted to your original pinion in the axle?

it comes buit you fit ,unless you know diffs like me or similar your not going to make it better, easily as would have to learn first and have tools
