New defender owner in Somerset

Hi guys and girls ?

Recently just bought my first defender and although its a 2.5 petrol on a c plate with 121,000 miles its been in the same family since 1992 and has been well looked after,

Thought I'd join this forum as I am not afraid to get my hands dirty and work on all my vehicles I own so any useful hits tips and general knowledge would be great,

I'm hoping to throw the 2.5 away and transplant a v8 under the bonnet by the end of may so will be looking through the may posts for much help

V8 hope you have deep pockets ( says the person fitting a quad cam)

Why you say deep pockets ? Fuel/mpg costs or running costs ?

3.5 carbs 9-13mpg 17 if your very light footed generally

injected 3.9-4.6 9mpg in town 14-20 mpg cruising

I never knew it was that bad was looking around the 20-25 mpg,

Looks like I will have to consider the 200 tdi conversion

Is there a problem with your engine?

Yeah I have issues when driving any distance as it starts to splutter and want to cut out, don't know if the carb is freezing up or the fuel isn't getting to the carb as it only happens after 10 minutes of driving ? Really is puzzling me as it tick over fine and starts perfect have blocked the front up to try and see if this works but no luck as yet as I only drive 2 miles to work each day ?

Sounds like a fuel starvation issue, check filters and lines first would be my guess but I never have petrol vehicles myself. If you don't get any suggestions try posting a thread in Defender90/110/130 forum, therare peeps here that know petrol engines well!
Btw I think your motor is a 90, Def started later than C plate

or the distributor weights have seized or an air leak- does it go if you pull choke out

Have been fiddling with the fuelling issues whilst driving but had no luck as yet
