Well, as full signed up member of the Lazy Bastid society, I have managed to put off fitting my new handbrake cable for nearly a year. It has become a long term piece of shelf ornamentation :D

Now with MOT looming, it's got to be done.

Dont look too bad a job. Cable fitment into back of brake drum looks most likely point of skin loss and swearing (300tdi direct cable feed).

Any tips on problems to expect?? I cleared drum up and replaced the shoes last year so I know it's not too bad in there (or wasn't anyway!):)

OK, 102 views, not one answer.:(

I can only therefore deduce that:

a) None of you know the answer; or

b) The question was so stupid it doesn't even warrant an insulting remark:eek:

lube rubber at lever end before removal and before refitting,i remove back plate 4 x 15mm headed bolts but can be done without adjust shoes then cable worth copaslipping threads for the future

Well, job done. Not very difficult compared to what some folk get up to but though I would share anyway.

Cable easy to disconect from the lever and with a bit of a yank, pull the rubber gromit end thingy out of the hole, doing so via the panel below the drivers seat. Witha blob of grease first, easy to get back in too.

Drum brake end was a pain in the arse. Just because it always is. I find the shoe set up and pins and spings bloody fiddly and infuriating to take out and replace.

Main problem was the cable. The spring covering the end was so tight I could'nt get the cable end out of the plate behind the right hand shoe, even fully taken apart. Hack saw to the rescue to cut through the cable and out it came no probs. A heavy duty wire cutter would have made life a bit easier.

And the best bit, only injuries were a big blood blister on litttle finger, small blead to index finger, mud in the eye and a stiff neck next day:D
