hi all,
looking at a new car for the wife and have seen a freelander local.
its a 2003 td4 with 90k miles.
up for £3400.
is this a decent price for a private sale?.
what should i be checking on it?.
i have a 300 tdi so know my way round mechanical bits.
cheers.

Sounds about right - if it's got service history great. Plan on a bit of expenditure to perhaps change the VCU if it's not been done - about £300 from Bell Engineering fitted. The go anywhere between 70k and 100k easy 30 min job but big implications if not done. Plenty of advice on this site.

Don't be suckered into the banter you are going to get - the ever helpful "burn it" from the jealous etc!

Good vehicles if serviced and looked after.

Hmmmm....

This is an example of why in another thread I posted asking whether the forum is moderated or not.

Andy.

Hi,as Angeloc says,if its been looked after it will show, good motors if looked after- price-it all depends on what you want to pay-has it got any service history?,do a search on auto trader etc and that should give you a better idea on prices.I have a 55 plate TD4 that has been serviced from new and i would not part with it,good to drive, very good on fuel,it was a blessing last winter up here.Have a look about first before you buy---Dave

use this site and do some searches loads of info on here that will help you out. Bloody good motor the TD4 the more service history the better. If you buy it do the EGR mod and the element filter. replace it with the BMW replacement, it doesn't get blocked like the standard 'filter'. Part No. 11 127 799 367 from BMW dealer, ~£20. Give it a good test drive do some full lock figure of 8's to check out the vcu and make sure it has the prop shaft on.
