Hi All,
I joined the Landy club yday!
Had a 17 year old Vauxhall Frontera who carried me safely and happily around working as a nurse for a good few miles........
Yes  I was a Frontera Lover! Love old strong off roaders, she was called ''The Bitchface'' because the name suited her!
Sadly R.I.P as the head Gasket went on Monday.....

BUT.....Ive been rescued by an S Reg Landrover Freelander 1.8 Xei Station wagon,
Really pleased with her, shes comfy, drives very easily, looks lovely for the year, roof and side bars, and caged lights (just a little bit of added oomph on how she looks). Love her so far, so thought that I would join here and have a look around:D
Will get some photos up, she needs a couple of wing mirror back covers that ive got to put on, and I will have to replace and re-wire a new rear wiper as mine has snapped, but that's it...................Heres to (hopefully) many happy miles together.......still need to find her a name!

Nice to meet you all and read some of your combined knowledge!

Okay, im not the coolest girl in the world, and im a little quirky, I know very little about cars, my jokes arent great, but im not that bad! Just saying hello and having a look around.
Or ''Oh Dear'' Because of the new purchase?
Confused :(

Have a search for common problems with petrol Gaylanders.
They blow headgaskets for a pastime.
Have you looked underneath to see if the propshaft and VCU are there?

I knew when I got her that there was a huge risk of head Gasket problems, especially for the miles she has done already, but I was stuck with no car and no money, and she popped up cheap through a friend, I know nothing about what a vcu or propshaft is as I do human repair very well with years of knowledge! but know sod-all about cars at all!
I didnt have the luxury of waiting, as I cant work without wheels.
Looks like ive obviously made a huge mistake..........and now im feeling pretty worried but dont have any choice but to keep her so will just have to see how we get on together and hope that she lasts for a little while. Lets hope luck is on my side then?!
Fronteras were the same, huge problems with head gaskets, but I had to take what I could get, and its the same on the FOG forum, pages and pages of problems that happen again and again, (but they are very welcoming and friendly, friendly people on meets and someone even helped me to fix a problem once too). Alas Ive got what ive got, lifes tough when you are skint, need a car for work, and need a solution fast!

:welcome: Mrs :)

they're just jealous cos they've got no style ;)

HELLOOOOO!
Thank you for the nice ''hello''
Lets face it, like ive not heard EVERY frontera moan and joke in the book! for years!!! If I could have £10 for everytime someone tutted, shook their head or took a deep breath intake when Ive told them what car I drive I would be able to buy something REALLY great to drive!!!! ;)

Stick with it on here (even if it gets lairy). There's a wealth of knowledge and an army of willing helpers - specially for a burd in a nurses uniform.
Whereabouts in the country are ya?

This place is second to none for knowledge, banter and if ya stuck 9 times out of 10 someone will come and help, stick with the gaylander as they aint all bad, ive got a diesel 1, had it from brandnew and to be honest never gone wrong without it being my fault, where abouts are you in the country ?

Hi Trewey and Others
Im right on the Kent/Essex border, not quite the garden of England here though in sunny Dartford!
Lairys okay too, ive got a teenager in the house so ive had years of toughening!! :p
Plus Im used to being the under-dog and joked about (name says all)!
and Ive been a Fronty owner!!
Im just a Gal with a love for old 4x4's they may be old and not last long, but Damn I need something safe for the miles I do, see terrible accidents every day and I know what vehicles come out better off!
:D

:)

you have got summat really great to drive now ;)

but, as pointed out, they aint perfect and require a few bits and bobs checking/keeping on top of.

stay with us and search/ask questions.

Oooh Dartford eh! I know the area well - used to have a burd who lived there when I was an Essex boy.
Er, how old is your teenager?;)

Its always good to be part of a forum, have had lots of questions and help in the past, Ive got a good garage (would LOVE to be able to pull them apart and put them together again myself but work way too many hours to have the time).
The garage will of course roll their eyes when they know ive got a Freelander!!! but they are used to sorting out my knackered old machines!!!

I had a brand new hire car last week, was a terrible experience!! Felt constantly car sick being so close to the road, felt totally unsafe as it felt like a tin can, and had the worst back pain from the squashed uncomfortable seats, Im bliddy loving my new Landy!! But yes, I will prey that she holds out and her head gasket doesnt lose the will to live too quickly, 2 head gaskets in a very short time would possibly bring me to tears, and ban me from using the AA (lets not even start on their opinions of my past vehicles!!!! They ALWAYS feel the need to tell me what a bad motor im driving!!)

Haha! Brilliant!
Hes 18 and im 38..............Ive told him his Dad is in prison!!
Only joking, im not a ''typical'' Dartford bird, I still live with my partner, god hes been few some motor moments with me, he is wonderful in many ways, but he dont drive and he dont fix bliddy cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im scared to look but will!!!!
My first Frontera had to go back after a day, as I had it for the drive home and then the oil light came on the the power steering went!! Engine was knackered and I had a Renault scenic once too!!
:jaw:

(although to be fair I never had any problems with her, even the coils held out) She is still driving around Dartford now with another owner!!
Off to read scary thread!
