Anyone recommend a place to get tyres...?

i have Pirelli scorpion st 255/55/18 and finding it hard to track these down....!
or am i not looking hard enough...?
i have heard that these can be hard to find so is there a alternative that are as good....?

mail order is fine but anywhere King's Lynn / Norfolk would be better...

Cheers

A 95 car should normally have 16 inch tyres. Has someone put 18's on yours? Should'nt be a problem though. My car is a year 2000 with 18's as standard but I have some winter tyres on 16's which also give a better ride around here (bad roads apart from the TT race roads) and in the snow if it appeares? . When doing long distance stuff in the summer the 18's go back on and are better on motorways - STR's.

the reason i need tyres is that i had a blowout this morning...or should i say the wife did on the way to work and the tyre almost left the rim.....!
When i put the steel spare on i did notice it was a 16''.... so yes, whoever had the car before me put the 18's on..

we use the car mainly around town and the occasional trip down to London...(LPG...or it would be the train for us). we live out in the countryside and the lane we are on never see's a gritting lorry....and it can get quite muddy from the farms...

I've done a bit of digging about tyres and have found that most people think that the STr's wander or tramline quite a bit and from memory a few cars i test drove when looking the a RR had STR's on and i thought there was something wrong with the steering...obviously some like the STR's but i don't want the risk that amount of money on something that i may not like...

i 've looked at the General Grabber AT (£130) and it has good reviews and is the all round tyre that i may need....but there is also the General Grabber UHP (£112) tyre that is also fairly good but is more road focused......!!!!

confused dot com......

i used to have scorpion st's but changed last year to general grabber UHP's all round. been very happy with them. my p38 is used mostly on road

I'm just down the road from you (Downham).

Sold a set of str's (18") a while back but to be honest good riddance. Got General Grabber AT2 now, great in the snow just now and not noisy at all. AT would be my choice.

Running Grabber ATs on mine. I regularly drive up to the highlands of Scotland then around unmade tracks. Good results on both motorway and tracks. I got them through Black Circles, fitted at home.

Hi mate if i remember they have stopped making sts and replaced them with strs which i had on my p38 but not anymore they were s??t ive got general grabbers uhp on now and not a bad tyre at all. :)

+2 or 3 (I lost count) on the General UHP's. Very smooth quiet tyre and will handle light snow and light mud easily, but you'll need something more for serious dirt.

THANKS ALL....AT,UHP,AT,UHP,AT,UHP.....!

lets have a vote....!!

can you recommend anywhere local....? I've tried Page and Bird in Lynn for the AT's £144 fitted...? i need two.....i was thinking for looking for a breakers yard for part worn....ST's just until i can get some more cash together so i can change the lot...!

failing that i'll just have to get two new ones and put them on the back...

your gonna have to trawl thro ebay for the pirelli st they come up now and again unused but there all gonna be 10 years old or there abouts,

I had pirellies on mine they lasted 15000 miles sidewalls blistered and were nearly down to limits also tramlined.
I now have Michelin lattiude cross and done 20000 miles on them through Russia the stans and mongolia so a good trial i think and i am pleased with the proformance of them and also they only look about half worn so i know what i would vote for.
also while in mongolia i compared them with grabbers and bf goodrich and they seemed to have trad damage through going over rocky outcrops and unsealed roads.

I got my AT2's on line for about 90 a couple of year back, took them to Central Tyres in Downham and they fitted them for 40, good guys in my experience, sometimes done me small jobs for nothing. Apologies for late reply.

To clarify, £90 per tyre (although I guess the next generation will have gone up) and £40 to balance & fit all.
