yes you can fit the donor engine. as long as you have the bell housing off a Manual gearbox to fit to the engine it will fit no problem. You may need to swap the ECU's over as well. (Not a V8 fan so check this 1st)

thanks for your quick reply redhand, problem is i dont have the ecus .bought the disco and donor engine from someone who put it to a garage about nine months ago .they wanted it too be fixed under a warranty but that didnt happen then things went t##ts up and not a lot of communication since then between them .so like i said dont now if the donor will fit to the auto box the guy at the garage says no and another mechanic says the timing will be a nightmare to alter or change to electronic so pulling what hair i have left out at moment thanks again ..

The engine will fit for definate. only the bell housing will be different. As long as yu have the bellhousing from your V8 it will go in. The Garage Mechanic sounds like he knows fookall. converting to electronic timing shouldn't be that hard as it's only a pickup head instead of points. One of the V8 boys will point yu in the right direction I'm sure. but at the end of the day it's a landrover so anything is possible. if you have the time and money.

I think you will find the earlier injection engines with a dizzy have a different timing cover to the later ones. I believe it is possible to swap timing covers.

Do you know for sure that one engine is an old one (hot wire injection, DLM8 Dizzy and 14CUX ECU) and the other a newer one probably on Gems with coil packs instead of dizzy.

I'm pretty sure if eightinavee, teflon or irishrover look in they'll set me straight but like redhand said, the engine will fit, swap bellhousing then sort your injection/ignition system and should be job done.

Hi classic kev, thanks for your info ,not sure what year doner engine is but shall have a look tommorow for some info on engine should be a clue on the eng number or am i wrong there. definetly a coil pack on the disco instead of a dizzy so i thought that it was original to the age of the motor.my thinking dizzy old engine .coil pack newer engine .its all a bit confusing to an amature like me but reading your message makes it sound so easy. do you know of any site where i can down load images or info about the subjects to hand. thanks..

you need to check crank nose length and the positions for the sensors, ive been through all this with my rangey and was gonna use an older engine but decided against it.

i know a fella who has engines in all the time for p38's and they are basically the same engine. pm me and i'll give you his number!
