On the inside of my mind.
I have a range rover with a perkins 3.8 engine in. The fuel gauge appears faulty and it ran out of diesel. Does anyone know how to talk me through getting it going again. I need an idiots guide as i'm not to clever with mechanics. cheers. john

dunno about deisels, there should be a primer pump, it'll probably look like one of them old foot pumps in caravan to pump the water, pump this and it should bring the fuel through, some cars have an auto bleed, usually newer cars, just turn ignition on till lights come on dash, you would hear the pump if you have this function, another method is to fill the deisel fuel filter with deisel and this should give enough fuel to start the engine and drag fuel up. also trying to start with accelerator half way down works on some cars.

as above

some are designed to self bleed when you crank them but again not sure on tha engine you have.. if there isn't an obvious primer pump then I would go with filling the filter in the absence of a handbook

Sorted. Just in case it happens to anyone else. Gavbriggs was right. The ignition has to be sparked until the cam ( I think is in the right place before it starts to bleed). So ignition turn - off- then bleed. Keep going until fluid comes out of the bleed nipple. Then crank open injectors 1&3 then pump - close, open injectors 2&4 pump again -close (fluid should be visable) may not smell like diesel) Start engine. If this does'nt work try again, if this does'nt work. Ring the garage. Thanks for all the help Guys. john.
