Nasty Clattery Banging Noise

I've had this noise for months now but it is getting a bit louder..........

wondered if anyone has had the same sort of noise / problem before I start shelling out at the garage?

It only does it on cold startup and goes away after 10-20 seconds.

I've been told by various opinions

Flexi plate
Liners lifting
Terminal gearbox reluctor ring

but all have said 'but mine didn't sound like that'

1997 4.6 V8...............

Well she has gone in for her repair.

Managed to source a good 2nd hand flywheel assembley with flexplate and boss included.

The mechanic has started dismantling the necessary pieces to drop the gearbox to fully diagnose the problem.

I will let you know what the prognosis is when I do...........

Well the manifolds ( or fanny molds as my wife calls them) are off and it still does it!

fook knows then, love the fanny molds lol

Wouldn't even think of fitting a second hand flex plate given the tendency to crack and the work/expense incurred in dropping the gearbox etc.
For what they cost, I would fit a new one without hesitation. Bit like stripping a clutch down and saying there's a good 10000 miles left on the plate..I'll put it back together and wait till it dies.

Very good call Irish. In the old days when you could buy spinner plates seperatly instead of the now clutch kit. If a gear box came out for any reason, the minimum was to throw in a new spinner plate and release bearing just to be on the safe side.

Fortunately I know the car it all came out of so not a complete blind purchase.

I'll update you when I know how it's going.

I cant see the pics, what was it in the end that was causing the noise ? I only ask as i may have the same problem !!

I can see the pictures and it was a very slightly cracked flexi plate don't know what all the fuss was about. That was a joke it was a seriously knackered flexi plate.
