Have just been bolting on a couple of diff guards and while i was under the front axle i noticed that there was a cleary brown viscous liquid dripping down from underneath the engine. Didnt have time for a detailed look as was pushd for time but appeard to be comming down from sumwher near the fan, definatly from the front of the engine. Any clues as to what this mite be?? Thanks

If it's actually off the engine block and it's oily, they it's almost certainly engine oil or PAS fluid (the pump is at the front right of the engine) - just got to trace it back to where it comes out the gubbins! Your only options are engine oil, PAS fluid (assuming you have pas), brake fluid (red), or if from the back of the engine or axle, EP90...unless it's watery but then it wunt be viscous!

ok, found where its coming from (nt entirely sure wot the part is) think its PAS pump. Is driven off a pully coming from the engine, same place as fan belt. engine is a 2.5 turbo.

yes, that's the pas so it's likely to be pas fluid - check the level in the reservoir and if necessary either put some DOT4 in or some special halfrauds PAS fluid which does the same job. (expands the seals and seals em up again!)

does this akcherly work
yes, i had a leak and got the halfrauds stuff which claims to stop leaks (it was about the same price as the standard pas fluid so no loss!) and it did the job miraculously, and whilst it takes a lot for me to advocate halfrauds, in this instance i do and it did OK - although i'm sure the DOT4 trick works just as well if you have some kicking about!
