Hi All

New to the forum, but not new to Landrovers. Currently have a 94 Soft Dash and an L322 HSE, just sold my P38 DSE and its on its way to Uganda apparently!!!
Any way have owned my classic for about a year now but not really used it as was a bit tatty. Decided to sell the P38 (ongoing suspension issues even after a complete rebuild!!!!!!) and spend the money on the classic.
Started the work about 2 weeks ago and today she came ot of the bodyshop with her new colour.
Thought i would just post the pics of my progress over the last 2 weeks and see what every body thinks.
Started with the dreaded death wobble when i reach 50mph. Order of works.

1. rebuilt the front swivels and set up the preload
2. Bearmach HD standard height springs
3. Procomp shocks
4. Bearmach Polybush kit
5. Track rod ends
6. Anti Roll bar bushes etc

Now handles like new but found while underneath that the rear crossmemer as basically Missing!!!!. Removed carpet to find huge rust and holes everywhere.

Rear crossmember in a bad way!!

While working around the car we found a lot more rust than we thought, so we now had to fix everything to make it right. I have decided to go round the whole car now and fix all the holes and repaint the whole car.
more pics to come tomorrow.

Looks a very nice job, should easily outlast the rest of the car! Makes me feel a little guilty when I think about the patchwork quilt that is my boot floor. Nice welding too!

Hers are some more pics of the project, and to think all this started because of a wobble problem at 50mph!!!

Bonnet hinge supports completely gone!! surprised the bonnet held up!!

The painter then spent 3 hours wet flatting the whole car and then buffing it with G3, those pictures will be put on tomorrow as thats when my work begins putting her back together.

looks nice mate , done a couple my self now- its all good fun innit, well apart from when its getting dark and you have rust in your eyes and you think ffs why am I doing this :D

You have a much better wroking enviroment than I did , I was on the drive. is it yoru garage?

I suppose you could call it fun, i dont have a garage at home its my workshop at work where i do all the work. And im lucky enough to have 5 bodyshops down my road and one right next door!!!

Absolutely brilliant! Totally incredible! Bravo!

You will have something better than new and that no one else has. I'd rather arrive in that than a new one.

What will you use it for? High days and holidays or every day? Selling it?

Thanks for your comments , im going to use her for towing a boat and cherry picker as CCTV and security systems is my business. I wont be off roading in her i doubt, but never know. Just remasking up for painting all the black on the door pillars etc this morning.

Pics of todays progress

Fitted all the lower and upper tailgate hardware and mouldings etc, fittd to car and lined up for now, final adjustment on Monday.

Masked the car up again and prepared all the black door pillars and windows frames inside and outside the car for painting.
Finished them with 3 coats of Satin Matt Black

left to dry for an hour demasked and i came out better than new, really contrasts against the blue paint.
More work on Monday im having a day off tomorrow!!!!

Yea I got to finish my window frames too, did the drivers side, and left the passenger side (well you don't look at that when you get in to the car do you? lol )

I only got the P38 in February it came with a hole in the air con rad, bypass valves fitted to the air suspension. So i rebuilt the compressor, valve block and changed 3 air bags, fitted new air con rad and 4 new tyres.
It drove alright for a while but then when we had that hot weather the other month it started coming up gearbox overheat so i left it in an NCP in central london to cool down when i came back 2 hours later the car would not open with the remote. To cut a very long story short i sat in that NCP for 6 hours waiting for the AA to recover the car and take it home.
The garage eventually fixed the problem then teh air suspension started playing up again so the decision was made to sell it and spend the money on fixing up the classic which to be honest had never missed a beat or let me down. But i never expected to find all that rust or go this for with it but now ive started im looking forward to the end result.

Done some more work on the car this week nearly there now, fixed the heating elements in both the front seats and refitted the carpet and seats back.
fitted the bumper, new fogs etc, rear bumper etc. Fitted a stainless exhaust backbox as the original just looked crap with the whole cars image.
