Just thought I would keep you all up to date with my retro fit winter pack to my Disco 1
1) Fitted an extra battery with split charge due to my extra bits of
equipment I will be fitting
For this I choose a Bosch silver top.
2) Took a heated windscreen wiring loom out of a scrap 300tdi
and it's heated Windscreen. Put the loom in but could not get the timer
relay to work with the OEM switch, after spending days trying to get
this to work I gave up!! (Maybe it was a faulty timer relay but they are
so expensive) So bought a simple on/off switch from X-eng which has a
nice bright light to show me it's ON. This was wired to an ignition live.
Then to top things off only parts of my heated screen work
So now
on the lookout for another screen.
3) Now for the best part, a Webasto thermotop night heater
this came from a 2007 Peugeot 807 I think for £120. For those of you that don't know it heats the water up in the engine by remote/mobile phone/ timer switch. Got quite worried as I could not find a wiring diagram and the wires were not the normal red for live, black for negative ect. After buying the Webasto I got told it would not work as half the webasto is controlled by the cars ecu can bus. However the company who told me this was quick to offer me a kit for £560!!! I looked all over the internet and found a nice man from YouTube who pointed me in the right direction, + emailed me wiring diagrams ect. Had a play with it yesterday and got it all up and running
Just in the middle of ordering my remote start kit from eBay ect then will be sending the kit and Webasto unit to the man on eBay for him to wire it up and give it a good service
4) Installed a Brand new genuine Land Rover heater blower
for the sum of £50 (think I got a bargain) Mine kept cutting out after 5min of use.
When I get my Webasto back I will put plenty pics up on how to install the unit + wire it up. I found it hard to find info on the Webasto + pictures of the wiring ect.
Oh I also found out not to buy the BMW webasto heater as that does need the BMW car ecu.
5) diesel fuel filter heater, this works from the engine coolant and heats the diesel between the filter and filter housing.
PLEASE NOTE: I run my car on 100% Bio Diesel which is why I put the diesel heater on and decided to go for the Thermotop and not a heater which just blows hot air into the cab.
