i was going to burn them out, hence the gas bottle brazier, but the feckin' rain killed that so sat and thought about it for a minute .. had a beer and just got on with it. I'd already done the first one before I thought about videoing it!
 
Many thanks to Aaron for the use of his new press, made fitting the bushes a doddle, cheers mate .. The new build looks properly good .. ;)

Then we re-fitted them at tc's new workshop, still a bit dusty!

The old bushes fell out of the arms almost, but still without a steering damper I hadn't had any real problems other than knocking and feeling them to bo loose!

So after the front, we move to the rear .. and the A-arm is in a shocking state. I've removed the Disco one, ready to replace bushes and the side bushes are fine, but the main one is loose, which I'll have to buy, but that's good! trailing arm bushes are a bit suss so they'll be done soon too.

I also removed the towbar off the 90, with a view to replacing it with the removable tow/recovery hitch off the Disco, the only difference being the angled plate welded to fit it to the Disco, which I'll grind off and replace with a decently sized plate to suit the 90 .. Job's gonna be a good 'un .. ;)

All the bits need fettling and cleaning but that won't take long, unless I get a bout of can'tgiveafeckitus ....

We want it all ready for the next SY workshop meet, when we're actually going night laning, a week next monday and taking a mate with me who's just bought a BMW X3 and wants to see what a real 4x4 can do!

This weekend we're away to sunny Blackpool with the kids and the caravan. My kids chickened out of 'the Big One' when they were little and always vowed to go back, so we are! think I might brick it myself this time ... ;)

Blackpool South Caravan Club .. going in the Mondeo so won't be laning as we also have a dinner and stuff booked for Saturday evening. Can't see me staying sober .. ;)

Pretty much out off the way there Paul, there is a pikey camp nearby, but nearest pub about 2 mile away, one at the end of yeadon way, does food and has a indoor childrens play area, and one by the big b+q does food

No worries mate, cheers anyway. We're being accompanied by family too so won't be short of food and booze and company .. ;)

Looking forward to it actually, not been up that way for years.
 
OOOOOOhhhhhhhh, the postie (well, fedex) comes .. ;)

A-Frame ball joint and bushes (Yes they're Britpart, 'g' though), bolts and a new waterpump .. just need some time now, work is such a hindrance ..

Fitted a new temperature sender too, yesterday and the gauge now works properly, for the first time since I owned it!!

Forgot, in the piccie above, I also bought a new small Angle Grinder. Argos £16, can't be without one these days and the last cheap one lasted over 10 years .. ;)

The old one sort of exploded last night, made grindy noises inside, it then started jumping outta my hands, like a live thing! The bevel gears, at least, died spectacularly. Any ideas what to do with the motor?

;)
 
So, removed the old and fitted the new A-Frame ball joint .. easy enough, just needed a big 'ammer, a steady aim and lotsa swearing!

Cleaned the arms up first then gave it a coat of stone chip. The new joint and the old bolts are taped up, not that I'm using the old bolts again, just that it's a better way to keep paint out of the holes than using the new bolts!!

With a little welding … after breaking, fixing, then properly breaking one decent sized welder, we had to use my small welder, which was actually pretty good when the operator (TC) can actually weld! ... the bits get stuck together.

So we’ve made a removable recovery hitch, the "Tug a Tow Recovery System". Not an earth-shattering technological development, but it means I have now got rid of a mahoosive tow-bar which I need for towing the caravan, but which can be a liability off-roading, and substituted it for a removable recovery shackle which will also accept (eventually!) a removable Towing drop plate. We have ideas for a removable, barbecue, Vice holder, etc etc ..

We've also made a few others, only tacked up for now but ready for welding and painting ... if anyone feels the need, pm me .. ;)

Been a good weekend .. ;)
 
Nice job that :)

I've been welding all weekend anorl but all there is to show for it is a chassis that's marginally less crap than it was before.

Good to remember that fun stuff is also possible
