We even used rulers an' everyfin' ...

.. but mostly 'ammers an welderers .. ;)

:5bsmash:

Basically I had one on my Disco, worked fine and wanted to transfer it to the 90, but instead of that we improved on the old design and made it lighter but stronger, especially on sideways or off-centre recoveries (triangulation) and much easier to fit!!

;)

Good question, mate .. er .. The receiver is part of a redundant engine hoist, about 5mm+ wall thickness, the drawbar is standard 50 x 50mm square 3mm+ wall .. they fit snugly together. It's a much better fit than my old one was, which was a copy of a Scorpion Racing product and worked really well.

The latest addition .. ;)

Nice work that, looking forward to see how you do the drop plate, put an adjustable one on mine to tow me new caravan back 160 mile (felt like towing a small bungalow!), which bent the drop plate slightly...

We've 'acquired' some pre-bent [ section that's about 10mm thick, mount it on a receiver 'plug' with a diagonal brace and drill holes to suit .. simple as!!

Mine will be quite a large one 'cos the Landy is quite tall at the back and the caravan we tow is small ... With the original, adjustable, drop plate on the 90 I also had to have an extra plate on and it still didn't get the 'van level, it was always slightly nose-high which isn't good!

Have to report we went out night laning a few days back .. people got stuck (I won't mention Brians' name) and others, but both mine and Tims vehicles fitted with the Tug-a-Tow Recovery System ;) pulled people out no worries, even slight (2' run and snatch) snatching was good, no breakages.

If anyone wants one, pm me .. ;)

We will be unveiling a complementary tow bracket soon ...

On a nother note, me winch now works! A bastardisation of a few odd bits. Part of a Warn brush set, part of a Vacuum Cleaner brush set, a Warn body, Kingone Field coils, renovated bearings and a phospher bronze bush and all's good .. well, it ain't fallen apart or stopped yet and is faster than it was before! It just pulled in two full drums of rope in the time it'd take to do 1/2 a drum previously! Hopefully that'll also translate into power. ;)

I've been trying to fix iamrobbies winch this week and it's about fecked! It's a Superwinch EP9.0 so should be good, but the brake is stuck and I can't get the six small headed allen keys out to take it apart .. anyone else done this before? The Spring clips each end are also a little awkward, but It looks like this is the worst part .. the freespool I've got reset properly and just about working, but again, it won't come apart, so it's hopefully a case of working it with oil and prayer!!

The drum bearing land at the motor end is also fecked, someone's hammered it, and dented it quite badly. I've tried to work it out but it runs off-true and when clamped together to the gearbox the drum just won't turn, indeed the drum won't even go into the motor endplate fully, 'cos it's twisting! It had been sat with twisted up, gnarled, rusted and caked in mud under the top layers, wire for a while which I had to cut/grind off and I think it's what sent it out of true.

So, has anyone got any Superwinch EP 9.0 spares? Drum and motor endplate would be good, I have an idea that the brake might be removed, though obviously only as a temporary measure to get it all running again!! ;) Anything considered ..

Good news about your winch Paul and the Tug-a-Tow system working!!

Ill have to hurry up and get my 90 finished so I can pop over to some of these meets you guys and gals keep going to!! I seem to be missing out!!

Best of luck with the winch of mine :p

You'd be very welcome mate .. ;)

I have an idea for the winch brake ..

We're trying to buy Juliet a new car, taking one kid to University .. and moving his kit and caboodle too .. as well as fettling my 90 this weekend .. then probably scrapping her old car (Mondeo 2.0 Zetec, bust timing belt we think) I don't get much time .. ;)

At least your kids are grown up and now you can have some you time (more or less).

Im working 6 and 7 days a week to avoid my heavily pregnant mrs!!! (she's evil when preg)

My poor 90 is sat there just wanting to be driven!

What Aaron said, and what you said might help .. Only easier way, I guess, would be to get a ball joint already assembled to the anvil .. ;)

Had a great day out yesterday.

Took eldest son back to Uni in Middlesborough, set off late, got there late, so notalotta time left in the day but went home via Rudland Rigg and 'various' green lanes .. and had a ball!

Couple of decent fords, Ingleby Greenhow and Ravenswick/Hutton Common .. Got stuck in a moorland bog, slipped off the rut tops, but got out again easily. Chatted to some walkers who were happy to see vehicles on the lanes! They were a club from Manchester who'd come to North Yorks for the different scenery, they loved that we can now use decent gps systems (Mine's a Hudl tablet and Memory Map) to keep to 'proper' tracks. They said if the lane's a Byway they have no issue with vehicles, I agreed that it's mostly nutters or ignorance that screws our image up!

The 90 still overheats when going slowly, so a new waterpump will be fitted shortly, the head and stuff look OK. A rear brake pipe split .. it'd been caught on a branch at some time and went. luckily, only a couple of miles from home, so that's to do today. Can't believe how many brake/clutch pipes I've made up lately.

And the exhaust .. piece of cheese keeps bending and snagging so is likely to be chopped down today and made into a side exit somehow .. hopefully it'll stay where it's put in future!

And a little video of one of the fords at Ravenswick .. looks beautiful, but it's my cheap phone camera held in my hand so the video leaves a little to desire! Goes from about 6 inch deep to almost 2' deep with big rocks in the middle ..
