My landy broke down at the weekend. Starter motor failed. So I have removed the wings and the seat box and the floor and the doors. I am going to fit my TDI engine and gearbox in.

Seems a bit extreme because of a failed starter motor, but good luck anyway

What you mean you can just replace the starter motor. ....
I was planning to change the engine anyway just throught it would be a good time to do it.
