My 3.9 dropped to 8 - 9 mpg for about 3000 miles (well serviced) then shat its piston rings. Check the oil. Compression test it. Put it on ebay as a buy it now.

I have 2 levels of fuel consumption. 13ish with passengers. Much much lower on my own. Went from dover to Isle of White last month and averaged 15.7 over 500 miles. That was 5 up, well 4 and a 3 year old. On the motorways had a roofbox on. Plus the roads on the island not exactly good.

Is it serviced? Clean air and oil filters, good maf, clean stepper motor, throttle disc clean, plugs cap and arm new? Timing correct? If its lpg is the filter clean, is it set up correctly, is vaporiser good (if applicable). Is compression ok? Dont panic, do a search and check the obvious, lpg quality does vary from week to week aswell.

i sold my 300 tdi fender and bought a 4.2 v8 bobtail rr

a sundays laneing in the fender would cost ya around £30 in the rr its double that

but smiles per gallon is far more important
anyone who buys a v8 doesnt buy it on the pretence that it will be economical
