On tuesday my hand brake cable snapped, a new one arrived on friday So the easy task of changing my hand brake cable became a 4 hour long ordeal with the drive shaft having one rounded off nut, then the screw that holds the drum on had no head completely worn out and lock in, so no big hassle i removed the large nut in the centre and as i pulled the drum off i got about a litre of oil on my stomach. well its all fixed now and the transmission got a top up..

Hand Brake is a lot better now by the way..

It's only straight forward for the first three years when all the nuts and bolts etc are not rusty. Unfortunately only dealers tend to work on them then.
it's us that have to take an extra 4hrs to to do a 1 hr job

Ive started making sure I have replacement nuts n bolts before I start a job now, stainless where suitable, and copper grease on everything as it goes together.

imperial?? most of the nuts n bolts on a defender are metric sizes.

a selection of lengths of M8 M10 & M12s do alot on a fender. or but long ones and cut em down (bit of a waste that though)

Only Imperial I know of (there may be more) are the propshaft bolts

So only the pros shaft bolts! Happy days that's the bad boys I'm after, I'm still needing a selection of I think 1.25 pitch thread as I've encountered a few of these around the defender.

yep me to, and i always buy a few extra as i always manage to lose one, and its handy to have spares. I have them in jam jars and zip lock bags now lol.

I also keep all my old nylock nuts/bolts i take off and renew for use on non-critical things or fixing things up round the garage/house etc
