OK. I have used a tool that i bought in halfords to try and release the drain nut but have broken the tool.
It has multiple key heads for different fits and has one of them is (was) a flat key that looked like it would go nicely into the coin slot nut under both front and rear rover axles. It needed grinding down a little nut i got it to fit.
Well i tried it and i pulled and i pulled and the tool just broke in my hand.
The nuts are well and truly stuck.
Does anybody have any idea how i might get the little f*&^%rs out?

gas axe.....

You could try to file the head so it is square shaped and then get a big square ring spanner on it. Try some heat on the plug first maybe.

Or drill the bstards out. it'll fck a few bits on the slot sides and you'll need a sodding big drill at end. once the remaining plug is thin enough, collapse it in on itself with a cold chisel.

Remember one of mine was a bit awkward - got a cold chisel approx the right size, lump hammered it in, got an open spanner round the shaft of chisel and gave it some force.

Once you've cracked it an 1/8 to a 1/4 of a turn it'll spin easily...wouldnt want to drill mine out..

Having this same problem with transfer box and rear diff. Side of a spanner worked on the front one but can't get either of the other two to budge. Is there a special tool for it? Must be otherwise why would they make it like that.
