hi pat i cleaned mine when i was having problems lights comming on inside and out. it was all green inside, its part of main loom..
 
hi j, how are you,mine's was all green aswell,one of the connector's broke when i was trying to get green stuff off,going to scrappies tommorrow to get another plug,also found multi plug comming from door was the same,maybe that's why i was getting problem's with the central locking,here's hoping,what stuff do you use to clean those kind of plug's wd 40 or something else.cheers pat.
 
Use electrical contact cleaner with a fibreglass pen brush. When you have done it, smear them all with copious amounts of vaseline. Stops em corroding again

hi guy's went to scrappies today got both plug's their ten times better than mine were, just got the starting of some green stuff,went to pc store to find out best way to clean connection's, and they said some alcohol based spray forgot the name of it now,it'll come back to me,said you get it from a pharmacy.

I bet they said Isopropyl Alcohol? The best stuff is contact cleaner from Maplins or Halfords. IA is good for degreasing or removing flux deposits, but not corrosion.

It is watered down Alcohol. That is all. I use it extensively for Printed Circuit Board cleaning, for which it is very good. Alcohol is a good degreaser (think petrol to clean car parts) and it cleans soldering flux to a greater or lesser degree, particularly if used with a fibreglass pen cleaner, but it is not very good for corrosion (would yu use petrol to clean up corrosion on your car?) {gaylander excepted:)}
Contact cleaner is designed to clean contacts :)doh:) - what are you trying to do? Clean contacts? sounds like a good choice to me. But follow the instructions and then coat the contacts after with a liberal application of petroleum jelly (vaseline) to stop further water ingress and corrosion.

Just a query, would silicon grease not be just as good for this? I used to do a lot of diving and used silicon grease for electrical connections for lighting units, this kept the moisture out and seemed to work very well.

i will proberly go with the silicon idea,question!i know the best way for me to join this new multi-plug, wires, is to solder them,but considering there is not much room to work down there,what with the pedal's and not much play with the cable itself,do you reckon i would get away with just joining the cable's and then using heat shrink tubes.

Its always good to say this AFTER you've visited the scrapper but ...... any Multi plugs I've ever "Recycled" from cars I ALWAYS chop em off about 4 to 5 inches from the plug ...... Then when you come to fit em you can use ordinary "Chocolate blocks" to connect up to yer exisiting wiring & hide em behind the Trims!!

hi lad's, well cut the bad multi plug off the car, only to find that it has more connection's than the one that i got from the scrappies,have try'd to reuse spades from the old plug but can't seem to split the bit that has been crimped,is there any place that you can buy new spade's,and before you ask i have no spare wire on the spade's for me solder a new piece onto it.
 
Silicon grease is good but you've got to buy it.
Vaseline is better you can usually nick it from the missus.
