Just been to euro car parts and asked for MTF94 and was sold MTF 75W-80. Is this the same thing? He said that his computer shows they are the same gearbox oil? I have searched but cant get a definitive answer. 300tdi Gearbox.

Cheers.

Your right there is a lot of confusion out there

MTF 94 is alleged to be the same as MTf 75W-80 and indeed 10W-40

However Texaco themselves say MTF 94 is "approximately" the same as an SAE 75W-80

I've had this argument before with an alleged experienced diesel fitter.

I would say. Yes it is approximate and indeed maybe comparable at best but that doesn't mean it is compatible ;)

I'm sure others would disagree.

BUT

As Land Rover specified for my vehicle
Semi synthetic 5W-30 for the engine,
Texaco MTF 94 for the gearbox
Texaco Multigear 75W-90R for the transfer box and
Molytex EP 90 for the diffs.

I'm assuming it was for a damn good reason else they'd have put, just stick any old 10W-40 in everything.

That's what I'm gonna put in it. Cos I intend to keep my vehicle running till I die ;)

be aware that the R380 is very 'squeamish" on oils, i've tried 75W80 from Castrol in it and in the winter it was like sh*t to select gears, removed the oil, bit the bullet and bought the MTF94 and the difference was unbeliavable, i could'nt imagine that the oil could make such a difference... so my advice is to go for the original MTF94 even if it's a a bit more money, you need only 2.3 litres(3L to buy) and it will be good for at least 3 years, so you dont have to buy 5L cos it's good only for the gearbox... your choice e.g http://www.paddockspares.com/stc9158-oil-transmission.html

Ill deffo take that back and get the mtf94. Ill order that from paddocks now, I hear ep90 for transmission and axles ill see if they do that as well.

You'll need 6 litres to do both diffs and the transfer box. I use EP 75-90 as I find it's a little easier going when the transmission is cold. I buy mine at Carrefour - 9€ for 2ltrs. Total 75w-90.

This topic has come up more than once, so if you wish to use a Texaco product MTF 94 OK, but all the major oil companies and oil blenders ie Comma, Rock Oil etc do a similar spec manual transmission fluid.

Amsoil say their MTF will replace MTF94 AMSOIL Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid 5W-30

I did search and search but couldn't find a definitive answer to if people use what I purchased based on the shops advise.
