ok, so, i totally forogt about getting my RR MOT'd. I have until the end of the month, can anyone suggest a place to have it done?? I have my father telling me to take it to Kwik-Fit or some other random, while-u-wait, garage. Would just like some others opinions on where you took your P38?? Im not liking the Kwik-Fit idea as I can see some sloppy young mechanic getting in my vehicle and not quite treating it as well as I do (is this being a bit harsh?!) Anyway, thanks for any help...

I wouldn't go to Kwik-Fit, biggest bunch of tea leaves I've ever seen - there always seems to be something else wrong with any car anyone takes to our local one for some new tyres! My preference is always the local independent garage with a half decent reputation. I don't like main stealers because they usually know the vehicles too well and tend to be rather hard on them when it comes to MOT time. My local garage is thorough, but fair. Tho I did know somewhere in London that I could get a "5 min" MOT which was quite useful sometimes!!

local garages are best. Avoid kwik fit and the aa/halfords autocentres. i took my sisters ford KA there for an MOT as she was busy. It got an advisory note because of an air freshener which they reckoned was an 'obstruction in the drivers field of vision'. they took it off and nicked it too. it was a small little yello plastic ball thing, bout the size of a ping pong ball. they also claimed the baffles in the silencer were loose, got a note for that too, turned out a piece of heat shileding was a bit loose. I complained to the company but got the 'our testers are well trained and experienced' BS bollox. Basically, they suck.

Actually - that is an MOT fail now (believe it or not!) - anything hanging from the rear view mirror. My local garage actually has a sign up in reception advising people to remove anything hanging from the rear view mirror before MOT because it is a fail. Personally I couldn't stand something hanging from the mirror, I'd be constantly distracted by it - perhaps part of the reason it is a fail.

Where I used to live the local Kwik-Fit was being invesitaged by Trading Standards for telling people that work needed doing when it didn't. You know - you walk in asking for a couple of new tyres and come out with a new exhaust, new brakes all round, and if they can get away with it a new engine too! Actually, now I come to think about it that sounds like every VW garage I've ever used too!! One near Heathrow actually told me my ex's car needed new pads and discs - even though I knew that they were practically brand new as I'd recently done them!! Another VW garage told me my car needed £1800 worth of work needed doing for various bits and pieces to get it through the MOT, I took it to a local garage and they passed it, only mentioning that the ball joints were slightly worn but not seriously!

My advice to anyone is to find a decent local and use them for everything, the more they know you the more they help you out.
