so I finally decided on an oil for the 72 rrc

went for comma europa 15w50, lots of zinc and stays nice and thick at the hot end without being too thick when cold. good price too.

However:

I looked on the comma website and it said shelf life was 2 years, as it was hard to find this oil still for sale, most of the cans I bought are older than this. Does it matter???

I heard engine oil goes acidic in the sump after two years but is that because it has been contaminated by the engine running?

Contact Comma and ascertain what exactly happens to it after two years. Chances are it could be a sales ploy to make sure they sell off the less popular oils more frequently although saying it goes off after a relatively short period of storage isn't really a good advert. Oil, after all, is millions of years old before it gets refined so what's an extra two years?

lol rang comma about many things, problem is the 14 year old on the other end of the phone doesnt know fook all!

ah ha, just been back to there site and downloaded the tech data sheet.

1. the last 2 didgits of the code are the year of manuafture. 09 and 10 and this one has a 5 year shelf life

2. the girl at the motafactors said they havent sold this in years and this was the last of there old stock

Wouldn't leave the oil in that long, I change mine three times a year so every 2 or 3 thousand miles.
