What modifications do you have to tell an insurance company about.

Motor is an Ex-mil series 2a 109"

I've got lightbar, extra spots on front grill and bumper, Tow points on front bumper, rear towbar, rear fog light, rear work lights X2 plus a couple of other bits like Webber carb, fuel saver and one of those things that goe's inline to add the lead back into the fuel.

Do any of the above need to be mentioned on the insurance ?

Oh good

Better go and send em an email then.........

you deffo need to tell them about that fuel saver, if only to give them something to laugh at

Actually getting about 40-45 miles per tenner of petrol out of her so seems to do some good (hate to think what damage it could be doing)

Forgot to mention the CB radio, guess that'll be a mod aswell then....

what a load of bollocks i insured my 110 csw with frank pickles on one of there off road cover policys as a standard vehicle i asked what can i do to modify it they do what you want its insured a s a off roader so i have

Every company i've ever got a quote from has asked 'any modifications'...if he's said no, or added some, he needs to at least check before he finds out the hard way.

And I will find out, there is no way I'm risking points on me licence or fines or doing anything dodgy, it's just not worth taking a chance. Writing them an email at the moment and will find out excately what they class as modifications I've had a quick look through my policy summary thing and no where can I find anything in there about modifications to the motor it doe's say however I'm covered for towing other vehicles and trailers and can use a fitted roof rack other than that, there's nothing.

If need be I will remove everything until the renewal date as I can't afford to lose another years NCB as it would be the third year I've lost out on through changing me motor.

Thanks for the advice guys really appreciate it.

Just been on there website and under land rover insurance it states:

We can also insure Land Rovers with modifications such as, winch, snorkel, roll cage, spot lights, off road tyres, tow bar, side steps etc.

So it looks like they do have to be declared as modifications unless i take out one of their special "modified Land Rover" policies, oh well there goe's my £200 a year insurance.

You can look at it two ways..

Yes, its more expensive (but by how much?)

But now you can put a few mods on to your own requirements knowing that if its damaged/stolen at least you're legal..

I think you're doing the right thing...some might encourage you to not say anything...but you will lose out if anything happens..and insurance companys are always looking for ways to reduce payout or increase premiums for everyone because of a few clowns.

Just been on compare the market, fook me.........

Only insurance quote was from a van insurer I've never heard of, inc. alarm, imobiliser, steering lock, cut out switch, Towbar and spot lights the qoute was £864.32 where as this years insurance cost me £196.84 without the towbar or spotlights.

Couldn't put the extra locks in either.

big long list of about 40 insurers that refused to qoute.

Put in a qoute thing for adrian flux and Lancasters Will give them all a call tommorrow, at the moment I'm seriously considering just ripping everything out/off and putting it all back as original.

Just swapped the insurance off the 1993 diesel Disco £160/ 170 -- on to the 1990 diesel 90 and it went up to £700 with no modifications.

Shopped around and got it for £250 BACK WITH THE SAME INSURANCE COMPANY:doh:

i agree with storm,i had a 90 stolen last year(it was kitted up like the one in my profile pic),thinking i was being clever and saving a few quid i insured it as a standard 90,i had about £7k stuck in it and i got paid out £2300
the one i have now(in my profile pic similar mods)i have declared everything and its cost about an extra£450 on my premium(its not rocket science)
also if you have an accident and they find out you got undeclared mods it will invalidate your insurance

Well, just got home and opened me emails up...

Adrian flux: £889.95.

Modifications: Towbar, Spotlights, Alarm, Immobiliser.

Phoned footman james this morning and>>>>

Footman james: £792.32

Modifications: Towbar, Spotlights, Alarm, Immobiliser.

Dread to think what it would be if I told them about the front recovery points welded to the front bumper, front towbars, CB, Radio/cd and all the other crap on the ol' girl. Decided to spend the next couple of days ripping the lot out, so up for graps soon will be all the lights, lightbar, Towbars, Adjustable towbar mounting, extra locks and a tonne of other gear If me old man don't want it for he's Series 3.

Fooking gutted.............

i'm presuming your quotes are fully comp, i rang adrian flux and told them about my winch, light bar, tow bar and snorkel and mine was quoted £350 tpft for my disco and that included off road cover

Been unhappy with cost of my insurance, but having seen what others are paying perhaps it not to bad. series 3, replacement chassis, rr axles, suspension, brakes, wheels,90 engine (2.5NA) gbox, tbox, mititary spec front bumber, swing away spare wheel carrier, modified fuel tank (to clear suspendsion arm) 2 X front recovery points, centre front seat replaced with (homemade) cubby box. bonnet & front grill modified to create room for 2.5 NA engine, did have a momo 14" steering wheel, but that fell apart, so fitted standard one. TPFF low annual mileage no NCD (wife wrote of her flander 2 years ago) £315 with adrian flux, got a discount when I told them I was a member of this forum, counts as a club discount.
So maybe I'm not paying to much, but would still like to pay less, will see if I can get a better deal when it's due next.
Also p off that I have to fill out all the modification forms each year reather than just being able to tell them what has changed.

kin hell sound like hard work- mine anything except kit cars/motorbikes/steam engines and cosworths:p
