Project Tithonus! So thats probably what mine underwent i imagine. I knew there was something that happened along those lines. I was speaking to a chap today from the EMLRA who stated it would have been fixed up to look like a wolf by the new owner who purchased it from the MOD auction.

Hate to break it to you but Project Tithous only started in 2006/07-2008/09. This was essentially a mid life up grade to fill a stop gap with the older defenders and make them safer/and comply with the changes in legislation. The Mod also realised that the Wolfs were struggling to meet their service lifetime so something was required to releave the burdon on the wolf fleet.

As far as I,m aware the Mod has never used 200tdi,s in any of its defenders/wolfs....an I,ve been driving mod landrovers since 1998.

Sounds like the previous owner has bought one and "fixed" it up to look like a wolf.....I don't understand the attraction in Wolfs most of them are shagged and have had one hell of a hard life. Any that come up for sale are behind economical repair or are the 90 GS which is useless today hence why Witihams has them fur 14 grand!

I dont get it either. Dogged to ####, used and abused then given a massive price. But if theres a market for em i cant blame anyone for charging what they can.

Don't get me wrong goonarmy there are some very clean and tidy Wolfs in camp and storage. Not everyone that drives them are f*$kwhits!

But they aint getting sold any time soon. Wolf has had its life extended to 2020 earliest!

But they were bought for the military and they do, do their job well...in the right hands

All our lads dogged em. And with hatred too. The recce boys liked theirs cos they though they looked good with the roof off and milan strapped to the roll cage but that was the mentality.

about 6 or so years ago it was all the rage to build a "wolf" replica plenty online its tailed off recently but as said before I just don't see the attraction nor would I buy an ex army LR it just doesn't appeal. After taking a bunch of army guys from logistics out at a fun day and a bit of trialing I would never ever buy one!! throttle had 2 positions flat out of off.

Whatever gear and full throttle dictate speed only one of them really got it all weekend.

You said it with "logistics" they are the biggest cause of head aches on tour or on exercises. Doesn't matter what they drive, they drive with that mentality of on or off....Keeps me in a job and never fails to make me **** masell when I see what they,ve done

Most were logistics and a few were others were due on leave and fancied a day in the mud. What was very clear was those taught to drive by the army with no real tuition or driving tuition on the roads by someone other than the army were just not getting the idea of control at all. It was all very matcho the "drivers" vs the offroaders. I was only 21 myself but they wern' so smug at the end thats for sure! but they all got a plastic medallion for attendance and confidence!

probably changed the 2.5 to a 200

Thor do you mean the military or the previous owner?

As said previous we aint used them during my 16 years service so far

Previous owner............

But there are a few out there with the 300 tdi in them. But looks like most at the moment are 2.5 na. and they seem to be over priced. Sure most have the r380 in them and the Fiber glass top 110 looks nice and internal roll cage is a good idea but rather hefty in the price departament there top condition 1's in the 7250quid range plus Vat and paper work fees, puts them in the 8- 9k price range for a 2.5na don't think so

My mate bought a bog standard 2.5na ex mod landy and spent an absolute fortune doing it up to look like a Wolf. He could have just bought one in the first place. It doesn't even look anything like one so god only knows why he's kidding himself. He was even going to pay over the top amounts for a 'wolf steering wheel' and it took me a hell of a lot to convince him that its just a bloody land rover steering wheel. Dickhead

wolf its the same with any ex-mod surplus kit. You label it correctly and people will part heafty money for it. Generally its cack. Mod doesn't buy the best quality stuff sometimes.

An regards to buying an ex mod defender/wolf. Bear in mind this. Most of the spares will be genuine Landrover, but will be fitted by morons in my Corp. Some of them I wouldn't trust wea a wheelbarrow.

As for bigger assemblies ie, engine, gearbox, axles. These are reconditioned by generally the lowest bidder and what gets fitted back in is usually sh!te....The amount of reconditioned assemblies that are rejected is sometimes shocking....So yes the nice mod rover people look at has had lots of work done on it....but people need to look past that!
