Had the Disco serviced on Thursday, went to start it Friday morning, yesterday morning and this morning and it has a severe misfire for about 5 seconds after which it runs fine.

Gone to start it just now and not only will it not start (engine turns over fine) but the Yellow SLS light stays on.

Any advice appreciated.

Hi, It appears nobody is replying, perhaps it is because you have not stated whether or not your vehicle is diesel powered or petrol? Or what model variant?
I am no psychic problem solver. I have two diesel powered Disco's 300Tdi & D2 TD5 so far neither has let me down with the Yellow SLS lights. I am sure someone will know the reason why they are displaying. Possibly could be something to do with the servicing or maybe not related. But in my vast experience anything a human interfaces with is normally the weak link & the place to start. Bit of a Zen hint. Could search the forum for yellow light stays on too.

Good luck in you search ..... could try Google or youtube too!o_O

Even if it turns over that SLS warning and the fact that it doesnt start means the battery voltage is too low, check the battery clamps to be well connected then measure voltage while cranking, if it drops below 10V it will hardly start cos the ECU doesnt open the injectors, the starter will spin happily at 9V but the ECU will not work with that, so first of all give a good charge to the battery, tighten well the clamps then if you manage to start it measure the charging to rule out the alternator as root of the problem...if still no joy check the crankshaft position sensor to be well connected

+1 on what sierraferry said!
My D2 dash was a sight to behold when the battery was discharging when driving, starts with the 3 amigos, then SLS, airbag, etc etc.
Try jump starting it with another battery in parallel to yours.
When I sorted my fault, I started her using the new battery Id installed (which at one point was reading 9V and the original battery, both had recovered enough to start the car when connected with jump leads, not to be too obvious but dont connect in series!

Where does it state the model & engine just for future reference so I can read correctly threads? Or is this just for the convenience of the few who know this gentleman? In which case the forum is not for any member to learn from as I am not psychic or glued to threads 24/7.
As I re-iterate it could be that I am unaware how to find out these details.
kind regards,

kind regards,

It is in the OP's USERCP details - always worth a check.

Thanks as always for the replies.
Update - pretty sure battery is ok as she spins over like a jet engine but won't start.
Finally got her started yesterday evening by just cranking for ages and holding the throttle fully open. SLS light no longer staying on by the way.
Went out to start this morning and started first turn of the key with no misfire and drove perfectly.
This would appear to be a warm start issue as she wouldn't start again after about 1.5 hours this morning but started again first turn of the key when fully cold.
Having searched the two most likely culprits are CPS or fuel pump relay.
All help as always greatly appreciated.

Hello Yorkie. I've been struggling with similar issues with my 2004 Td5 Landmark and I am not out of the woods yet. Have a search for any of my threads with 'Daisy' in the title and you will get the full horror. On a cold start I wait for the fuel pump to stop churning and she fires right up, I don't think pressing the throttle makes much difference because of the drive-by-wire system. At the moment I am ok below 100kph but above that any acceleration takes out a cylinder and then I am stuffed. There is a plethora of knowledge on this fault but I have tried most of it and now think that it may have multiple possible causes. Annoyingly the local dealers could find no fault so now I have to find the kit to detect faults on a run. My suspect list is now: fuel pump relay, fuel pipes, turbo pipes, injector seals + whatever the fault really is. I just know the fix will be straightforward, it's just finding it that is killing me, to say nothing of SWMBO's views on geriatric Discoverys.
